Is it worth recessing a mirrored medicine cabinet on a load bearing wall? Help!

We are in the midst of a gut bathroom remodel and I need to decide on mirrors ASAP. I have my heart set on an arched medicine cabinet (Kohler Vedera most likely - no LED lights or electrical) over both my vanity and my husband's vanity.

The problem is that both are load bearing walls (first floor of a 2 story house). While my contractor is willing to do the work to support it, I don't know if it's really worth it. One of the mirrors will have sconces on both sides so I think that would hide the medicine cabinet part.

Or do I just give up all together and just get a regular mirror?

UPDATE: Our wall is only 3.5" deep and these medicine cabinets seem to need ~4.5-5 inches. So it's a no go either way.

Where to put the outlet for a Toto Nexus with S7A?

We purchased the Toto Nexus one-piece toilet with the Washlet+ S7A. Unfortunately, I wasn’t home when the electricians were there, and they installed the outlet on the side wall.

I’ve tried finding guidance on the best outlet placement to keep it as hidden as possible, but I can’t find any specific Toto instructions beyond the toilet installation itself. I did come across several Reddit discussions suggesting the outlet be placed to the right of the water line.

My goal is for both the plumbing and electrical to be as concealed as possible once the toilet is installed.

Can the Toto Washlet bidet outlet really be totally hidden with a Nexus toilet?

Ask and ye shall receive

We are in the middle of a 5–6 week renovation of two bathrooms, and this week I was gone for two full days taking my son to college orientation. Right before I left, my contractor asked for the exact placement of the shower head, valve, handheld bar, and niches. Looking at a blank wall, I was struggling to visualize the space and where everything should go.

Then it hit me to try ChatGPT to see if I could create a drawing. It took a few iterations (and eventually a free trial so I could keep prompting 😂), but I ended up with a layout I was really happy.

I sent it to my contractor before leaving town, trusted him with the process, and hoped for the best. When I got home today and saw it in person, I was honestly overwhelmed by how amazing of a job he did. He took my vision and absolutely nailed it. I sent him a message telling him how incredible of a job I thought he did and that I hoped he was proud of himself because I truly felt he should be. I know he also made sure that as much as possible lands on a full tile, so the exact measurements were not used, it was a very detailed guide.

I’ll also admit that I was a little nervous in the beginning of the renovations because he didn't seem to be accustomed to very detailed design requests, and a few things initially gave me pause and I even asked Reddit for advice. But we had a good conversation about how my design details, and I made it clear I was happy to compensate for the extra time that level needs. After that conversation, I felt much better.

If you think I should have approached the design differently, that’s okay. I really just wanted to share something positive because you so often only hear the horror stories. There are some great contractors out there, and when you find one who cares about bringing your vision to life, it makes all the difference. (Yep, this post was revised by ChatGPT lol)

Laundry service - Four Season's Chiang Mai

We are staying 4 nights at the FS next month and it's somewhat of a splurge resort for us. We will do a load of laundry in Bangkok the day before we head to Chiang Mai, but I would like to be able to do laundry there by day 3.

I read that someone paid the resort $175 for laundry and that is absolutely insane pricing IMO. I know the FS is outside of the city limits so I was wondering if we can find a service in the city that will head to the FS. I wouldn't be opposed to going into the city to walk around and dropping it off but then having it delivered back to the hotel.

We head to Kamalaya in Koh Samui after and I know we'll be able to do laundry once again there.

Any suggestions?

Please critique this rendering for me!

I posted asking for help earlier, but then realized I could just turn to ChatGPT for design help 😂

Is there anything I should be taking into account that I may have missed? I know a lot of the niche placement and sizing will ultimately be dictated by the tile layout — especially keeping full tiles leading into the niche and full tiles inside of it.

Would love any feedback, ideas, or things you wish you had considered before building your shower. Thank you!

Spacing of shower head, handheld and niche along one wall

I have a 60” wall to accommodate a 3 way diverter valve, shower head and handheld shower on a bar plus a niche and I’m having trouble with the spacing. Door will be on the left hand side.

Should I put the valve closer to door with the rain head further in? Google searching says 12-18” between shower head and handheld. I’d also like the niche at least a foot wide and taller vertically.

My CPA/numbers brain is getting the best of me and I think I’m over analyzing this! Contractor is asking where I want everything and I’m stuck.

Any help is appreciated!

We booked a club King room with a park view for 4 nights at the end of June through Amex Plat.

Checking rates today and some of the room prices have dropped and now I’m wondering if it’s worth the extra ~$125/night for the club level room. We get breakfast through Amex FHR, so the main benefits are afternoon tea and evening cocktails.

Appreciate any input!

This is the first time using this contractor and he came highly recommended from our super detailed, former engineer, cabinet maker. I feel like he's thrown a couple red flags, but that may because I have spent so much time researching this bathroom remodel, that I am over analyzing things. Right now he's working on my teenagers' bathroom, next is our master bath.

  1. He also keeps mentioning doing things because that is the "easiest".

Should I be concerned? His labor for both bathrooms is $23K (Tampa, FL) and my materials (I lean towards higher end finishes) are about $40K so far plus glass, mirrors, lighting. These are not cheap bathrooms. I'm wondering if my selections are over his head and he's not accustomed to so much detail?

We just started the renovation of our upstairs (teen) bath today. I picked Bedrosians Cloe 2.5” X 8” baby blue subway tile to be stacked vertically.

When we were discussing the game plan this morning, the GC seemed uneasy about how to tile our arched window. During the day he sent me a message and suggested covering and tiling over the window. I do not want to lose the only natural light the small bathroom receives, so to me, this is not an option. Neither is changing the shape of the (newer) window, lol.

What, realistically, are my options? Do they make any bendable trim that I could use? Google isn’t providing a ton of help, so asking here.

Note I haven’t used this contractor previously but he came highly recommended by our super detailed, former engineer, cabinet maker.
