Does anyone else feel that standard playing cards can make a game feel less thematic or original?
I’m curious what the general consensus is. When a game uses a standard deck of playing cards instead of custom-designed cards, it sometimes feels like:
A missed opportunity to create components unique to the game.
The game loses some of its identity because it resembles every other game played with the same deck.
The artwork and suits can clash with the game’s theme, making the cards feel out of place.
I understand that standard cards can make a game cheaper, more accessible, and easier to replace, but do you feel that they sometimes take away from the overall experience?
