My daughter was initially on a 3 nap schedule, but since her naps were shortening (the first one from 1:15 to 28min), her nights were becoming bumpy and her days were becoming longer with the increased WW I decided to switch her to 2 naps. But here’s the thing: even though her day sleep and overall mood is better (she seems to be better rested), the nights are still crappy. I think I’m struggling a bit with the new wake windows.
Here’s a typical 2 nap day:
Morning wake: 7am
Nap 1: 9:30-11:00am
Nap 2: 2:30-4:00pm - this one is an assisted nap, she struggles to sleep more than 40min but gets back to sleep very easily
Bedtime: 8:15pm
So that’s 2:30/3:30/4:15.
Here’s what I already tried:
- I tried lengthening her first window but if I do that she only sleeps 40min.
- Also tried shortening the second one but she also sleeps less.
- I’ve also tried lengthening/shortening the last WW from 4 hours to 4:45 but nothing seems to work: we still have the 3h after bedtime crying wake + many more after that. She gets back to sleep easily though.
When the 3 nap schedule worked a couple weeks back we were only getting 1 to 2 quick night wakes.
I also wonder if she’s not getting too much sleep during the day - she usually has low sleep needs - but if I wake her up from her first nap after 1 hour or if I don’t assist her on her second nap her day will be super short.
She’s getting all the food she needs and is not teething or in pain so I don’t think this problem is coming from something else other than a timing/schedule problem.
