UK IMG matched into community program- hemeonc possible?

Hey everyone!

I'm a recent UK grad (from a respectable London-based med school) who's matched at a relatively small community program in NY with no in-house HO fellowship.

Kinda bombed the interviews and fell a fair bit down my ROL.

Stats as below:

Step 1: pass (2nd attempt)

Step 2: 240

Pubs: 12 peer reviewed pubs in different IM subspecialties

Presentations: 20+ national/international posters with some orals

On J1 visa

What are my chances realistically of matching HO? Willing to move absolutely anywhere in the country. Or do I just settle for hospitalist for life?

2024 UK grad who matched to a mid-low tier community IM program in NYC. Applied to 150 programs but only got interviews from my signals.

Those who preach applying to tons of programs, what's the point?

Has anyone got IVs from programs outside their signals? If so, what did you do differently (i.e. were they in your geo preference, were they super low tier community programs, did you have a baller step 2 score, connections etc)?

Let's settle this debate to future applicants don't throw $$$ down the drain for no reason

Been loosing sleep on this over the past few weeks and speaking to friends and family but still can't make up my mind.

I'm a 2024 UK grad currently working as an FY2.

Have never been to fussed about my specialty as long as it pays well.

Have been very lucky to match in the US for internal medicine this year and also get an offer for ST1 radiology in the UK, but I'm so torn between the 2 options.

US IM pros:

- 3 years till CCT

- $300-350k salary for working 7 days on/7 days off

- Better QOL with this salary and abundance of time off

- Could always go into a fellowship to boost my income, albeit unlikely as I matched into a low-tier program

UK radiology pros:

- Get to stay near family (well, 4 hrs away as I got an offer in a different city)

- Better work life balance during and after training

- Decent private practice (heard it's quite common to break £200-300k as a consultant)

I've left this decision way to late and would really appreciate any advice or words of wisdom!

EDIT: forgot to add that if I don't go to the US now, I'll be banned from participating in the match in the future, so I have to be really certain about this decision!
