Confused about AACOMAS LOR Assignment Process - How does it work?
Hey everyone, I’m applying to multiple DO schools through AACOMAS and I’m really confused about how letters of recommendation work across different schools.
I uploaded all of my letters through Interfolio into the AACOMAS Evaluations section. Right now I have multiple letters uploaded (science professors, physician, etc.), and everything shows as “completed” in AACOMAS.
My confusion is this:
Different DO schools have different LOR requirements. For example:
- some require 2 science faculty + 1 non-science
- others require 1 physician + 1 science
- some have maximum letter limits
I originally thought AACOMAS would let me manually assign specific letters to each school, but I cannot find any button or section that allows me to do that.
I went through:
- Program Materials
- Program Questions
- Prerequisites
- Evaluations section
but I still cannot find:
- “assign letters”
- checkboxes
- dropdowns
- or any option to choose which schools receive which letters.
So now I’m confused about how AACOMAS actually handles this.
My questions are:
- Do all schools automatically receive every uploaded letter?
- If so, how do schools handle different requirements and maximum limits?
- Is there still a way to manually assign letters to specific schools?
- Did AACOMAS change this process recently?
- If a school only wants 3–5 letters, will sending more hurt my application?
I just want to make sure I’m not accidentally oversending or missing requirements before submitting.
Would really appreciate guidance from anyone who has already applied through AACOMAS recently.
