They’re here to serve us, we ain’t here to serve them..
I remember being so excited when I gifted dad the dual tone Wimbledon back in 2016-17. He was sitting on his chair, totally aware of the fact that he’d be getting one, as we selected it together a couple of weeks ago. So he opens the box, takes it out, has a lil smirk on his face, then proceeds to take off his Omega Constellation, and wears the DJ. The first Rolex in the house! It fits him as, I’d gotten it sized already. What he did next, took me by surprise.
He takes it off, and keeps it on his night stand. Not back in the box, not on a piece of napkin or any kind of barrier inbetween the wooden surface, just as he used treat his Omega. I ask him, “dad, are you sure you don’t wish to keep it back in the box, or protect it a lil atleast till the novelty wears off?”
He says - “these things are here to serve us, and we are not here to serve them.”
There was a sort of ‘BOOM’ in my head! Words to live by, really.
So finally, when I was able to get myself the mint green DJ last November, ofcourse I’d go on treating it the same way I was treating my Seamaster AT. And 6 months in, no special treatment, no being vary of the nightstand or the desk or the laptop.
Just wear it folks, and get on with it.
