Currently in the beta test of the kite app I am getting the same request from several users. It’s a good one. But I feel stuck.

Ya’ll want to add your own images of your personal kites. You want to add custom images and personalize your kit. Love it. That makes sense.

The problem is… Ya’ll aren’t going to upload cool illustrative style images with transparency allowing it to animate and wave in the wind like it should. 😆 As you can see in the example image, it’s going to look silly and I am stuck figuring out a way to make it work flawlessly.

So do we add custom images and I’ll do my best to make it works or do we protect the integrity of the design to be flawless? 💎

I’m excited to share that I just finished integrating a new wind radar map into my kite app. It uses real-time NOAA weather data to show wind speed and direction through animated particles, and you can toggle between hours to see how the wind is shifting.

It’s on version 1.2.6 and is coming soon to our beta testers.

I’ve been busy adding new updates and making adjustments, while trying to keep the experience simple and straightforward. Without losing the playfulness too.

Features added:
- Push notifications
- Favorite locations
- Wind directions to avoid
- Kite score details
- Additional forecast data

I’ve been getting into kite flying with my daughter and she kept asking, ‘is today a good day to fly’. I said there has to be an app for that and to my surprise, there really isn’t one. A ton for kite surfers.

I’m a product designer and it’s been a fun side project. I threw a fun brand at it. My daughter loves it. I was going to just build and launch but I figured I should share and test it here first.
