Hi guys so I'm looking for advice on how to write side characters that doesn't overshadow your MC's

I'm trying to make side characters that is not too bad and to good cause if the characters are too

bad I think that'll affect the story too if the characters are too good they'll overshadow the MCs

I already made a research about how to not overshadow your mc and now I'm looking for your techniques or ideas

I remember watching an anime recommendations years ago and forgot what it's called.

But I remember some part of it,I think it happens in a museum ,an attack happen and an ordinary looking girl is in that museum,the people there are running except for her to save herself she blend in with the heroes,I think the heroes are belittling her .

I also remember reading one of is comments that later in the anime they discovered that that ordinary looking girl also has magic.
