After 6 months.. Finally the right med!!
Hey guys, I post about my ADHD med journey here pretty often, so I wanted to share a small success story.
I got diagnosed with ADHD in December 2025 and was first started on atomoxetine 18mg. Eventually I went up to 40mg, but I barely got any benefits and started having suicidal thoughts, so my psychiatrist switched me to stimulants, Inspiral 10mg SR.
At first, I was super excited. I genuinely thought stimulants would “fix” everything and suddenly make studying easy. But after about a week on 10mg, it honestly just felt like taking a some OTC vitamin supplement 😭 I had NO benefits.
Then my psych changed the dose to Inspiral SR twice a day:
10mg at 9:30am and another 10mg at 1pm.
I stayed on that for around 2 weeks, but again the effects felt minimal and that also wore off by around 5pm..
I started feeling hopeless, as if such serious meds also won’t fix me.
Then after about a month, my doctor switched me to 30mg Methphen OD.
OH MY GOD. This was finally the correct dose for me!!
I’ve been on it for 2 weeks now, and the difference is huge! I feel the benefits people talk about now haha,
I take it around 11am and it lasts till about 7pm. The best way I can describe it is that my day feels smooth. Like butter.
The distractions slowly fade away, I can actually focus in coaching classes, come home at 3:30pm, and still study properly. Daily tasks don’t feel mentally painful anymore, I don’t whine to do everything..
I don’t sit there whining internally before doing things, I just do them.
ALSO IMPORTANT LESSON: It does not make me feel like some superhuman..
It just feels easier to sit down, stay focused longer, and actually work without fighting my brain every second.
Weirdly, my memory also feels better. I can read faster, retain things more easily, and even do simple mental math quicker.
There are still side effects though:
My appetite is pretty badly affected, and I sometimes get anxiety when the med wears off. Sleep is also bad and I wouldn’t feel sleepy till midnight.
To deal with that, I started sleeping with my mom again because it comforts me lol, and now I usually sleep by 11.
I do wish the effects lasted a bit longer for late-night self study till around 10pm, but overall this has genuinely been life-changing for me.
Also, I’m 17 and posting this with parental permission :)
