I am thinking about getting an EV for the first time. I currently drive a 2016 Nissan Qashqai diesel and have liked the drive (I like boring, safe and easy) but struggled with its reliability. I'm torn between the petrol hybrid Kia Sportage and the EV Skoda Enyap iV. I can afford both but the Enyap is a little more expensive. They are both at the upper ends of my budget but meet my needs for space and reliability.
I mostly drive short suburban routes (less than 12miles a day) for work and life. But I do drive longer distances (around 100 miles each way) every month or two, and do longer journeys for holidays around the UK during school breaks and half terms.
The problem I have with a EV is that, as I live in a flat with a private carpark, I can't charge at home. My work has chargers that cost 35-40p and there are plenty of on street option in my town. I am planning to move in the next couple of years but for now this is a big concern.
I see the Sportage as just a flat upgrade to my Qashqai, and I test drove it and really liked it. I really see the value of an EV but worry that without home charging, it would be expensive and a faff.
What do you all think, is an EV viable?
