‘96 Carry Reliability

Hi everyone, I’ve been in the market for a Kei truck for a few weeks now, and I think I’ve found the one. A 1996 Suzuki Carry with 14,000 miles, no structural rust, and a squeaky clean interior. I’ve heard Suzukis are the best when it comes to parts availability and ease of maintenance out of all of the makes, but I’d like to know what I’m getting myself into. The truck would be driven probably twice a week on paved roads up to 35 mph, and some unpaved/washboard roads with the possibility of deeper sand. Dealer said he includes an inspection before shipping the truck out (fuel/oil/air filter changes, oil change, replacement of old/broken seals and components like the fuel distributor). That being said, should I expect typical Japanese reliability with all of these things done and my expected driving? Or prepare myself for a little truck that I absolutely hate to love?

The right kei truck for puttering around on an island

Hey everyone, I’ve been thinking of snagging a Kei truck as a personal transport and work vehicle for Nantucket. I finally got to test drive a 1992 Acty at a local Honda dealership today and absolutely loved it, now I am dead set on finding the right Kei truck (not from this dealer, they wanted 12k for the acty). My main concerns are parts availability/reliability, ease of maintenance, off roading capability (sand/cratered dirt roads), and lastly comfort. I’m a taller guy, around 6’2 200lbs and fit in the Acty somewhat snugly, but would prefer marginally more leg room. I heard that Honda has the smallest cabin out of all makes. I’ve been eyeing a couple 1996-97 Carry’s and HiJets that have already been imported and are being sold at a much more reasonable price, but wanted to check with the mini truck wizards of the community before making a possibly stupid decision
