4th of July

Only towed a short distance but the truck handled it all perfectly. This was just a test and first heavy use of the rear bumper. It’s a little more weight than I’d be comfortable with on a regular basis or long distance but had to give it a good shakedown. The trailer with skis is roughly 1500lbs and the truck is maybe a couple hundred lbs more based on the local dump scale. The skis aren’t mine but I do plan on getting one with a single trailer and hauling a small utility trailer. The rear bumper is from Xpert Accessories for those wondering. Two thumbs up. 👍🏻👍🏻

Need some diag help

I have a 1995 suzuki carry dd51t that is very much a WIP. It has sat for several years before I bought it, and we were barely able to get it to idle, let alone drive. I drained the oil today and it was this very concerning tan color (ignore the chunks those were there before). My first thought is head gasket, especially seeing that the coolant is also a bit low.
However, are there any other seals these have that could cause coolant and oil to mix like the intake manifold gasket?
While this vehicle is 31 years old, it also only has 23000km, which gives me some hope that it may not be the head gasket. Looking for some input before I actually invest in changing a major gasket.

Honda acty ha7 X Yakima Bedrack

Saw an Instagram post of a kei truck with this yakima setup amd a rooftop tent. Could not resist to do the same.

Will mount a lightweight tent or 2 bike rack depending what the weekend calls for

Bolted through the bed on top of a rib, backed with a 1/8 aluminum flatbar under to reinforce it as much as possible

parts from the HiAce catalog

Spending a lot of time in HiAce currently, I noticed two parts that need to be sniffed out of the catalog and priced.

  1. cup holders

  2. USB ports

Still dealing with this issue with the 1993 acty. More of what I did in the description. This only happens AFTER it reaches operating temperature.

Removed and cleaned the carb, bench tested both solenoids and they work, confirmed the diaphragms work. Replaced all vacuum lines. Removed the catalytic converter and it came apart, gutted it, reinstalled and still no change. Fuel pressure is just over 400cc per minute per the service manual fuel pump test. Clean fuel filter.

Next I think I should replace the ignition control module, fuel cut relay, and slow cut unit carburetor controller.

I want to start with at least the cheaper replacement options before replacing the entire carburetor for a possible internal issue I’m not finding.

Idles perfectly fine at operating temp. Compression test is 153, 161, and 157 on cylinders 1-3.

New spark plugs + new air filter + full tank= vroom!

My truck had been getting sluggish, particularly noticeable starting from a stop and going up hills. This week I replaced the spark plugs and air filter. I've also noticed that it runs rough when the tank is almost empty. What a difference when everything is right!

Beforward doing some maintenance on an HA7 Acty for me before shipping out. Costs shared.

After looking for a bit, found an HA7 that worked for me. I like simple wrenching, but not big boy wrenching, so asked that some things be done by Beforward before shipping out. What I requested was:

Timing belt, water pump & front engine seals replacement

Battery replacement

A/C system check

Undercarriage rust-proofing

CV boots inspection/replacement

Took a few weeks to get things lined out, but they got back to me...

"Timing belt, water pump, drive belt, camshaft seal, crankshaft seal, and thermostat set:
Parts: USD 203
Labor: USD 590
Battery: USD 52
Battery replacement labor: USD 18

The drive shaft boots do not require replacement at this time.

The underbody has already been treated with a chassis black protective coating, so no additional rust-proofing is required.

There is no problem with the AC."

The CVs actually looked really clean, but I didn't want to pull an axle in the dirt and I was happy with the fresh coat of black.

So I paid $863 through Paypal. The labor is a bit high, but the parts are fair. I live on a remote island, so getting parts is a months type affair. Having this all done when the truck arrives, works for me.

Wanted to share as I had looked for some Beforward maintenance experiences prior, but did not find much. Hit me up with any questions.

Why Hijet or Carry?

Hi, all! After learning about the differences between the various kei trucks, I was wondering why anyone would want a Hijet or Carry? The engine location seems like it would be a much bigger pain to work on them compared to the Acty and Sambar and would be louder and warmer in the cab. It would also be lighter in the back end, so I expect it would get less traction to the back wheels.

The Acty has a lot more aftermarket upgrades available. And the ease of access in the Sambar due to its rear-mounted non-interference 4-cylinder engine (also available with a supercharger!) makes it arguably the best choice.

I'm not trying to offend anyone. It just doesn't make sense to me. What am I missing?

Help a noob with importing/registering out of NJ/NY?

Hiii! I finally decided to order a cute lil hijet for myself from Cars from Japan. I will be grabbing this dream truck from the Newark port and registering her in NJ. On the import side of things, how insane is the paperwork? Should I just hire one of those services, and if so which one is best?

Also, I read something about for registering New Jersey you have to just mail all the documents in-is this accurate? And which forms? And am I able to do this while the truck is still in transit? I’m going to register her as a classic/hobby car (any tips?)

And lastly-which company is best for NJ insurance? Thank you so much, sorry for all the questions. I have googled I’m just really nervous about messing up the paperwork and even just grabbing it at the port. Thank youuuuuu!

Mitsubishi minicab speedometer

Went and took the minitruck off road today. And snagged a big tree limb that tore the cable for me speedometer off the transmission. I know very little about them. Attempted to get it back together and it seemed to get together fine. But the gauge doesn’t work. Snaps up to speed for a second before going back to zero when I hit a bump.
Anyone here know much about em. Of if I’m missing a part. And if so where I can order one

Alaska Makes Kei Vehicles Road Legal

The legislative updates were slightly delayed. But Govorner Dunleavy signed SB. 239 into law on June 24th, making Keis road legal in AK!

The Texas Method works! If your state restricts Kei vehicles, GET ACTIVE.

Good recommendations for shipping my truck to me?

A little bit of context: I just imported a 1998 Subaru Sambar to the US and it's currently in the process of getting through customs (I already filed everything I need to) my only worry now is getting it to me. I live in Tennessee and it's being imported into JAXPort. Any advice for companies or prices when it comes to shipping it to me?

Heat wave beach day in New Hampshire

It was a warm drive with no AC to get to the beach, but tolerable with the windows down and perfect on the way home. Hello, if you're on here, to the newer Hijet that we passed going the opposite direction in Dover.

Would you buy a non runner?

Have the option to buy a 1995 acty sold as seen. Looks like it's not particularly corroded and is otherwise in good condition but apparently only recently stopped firing up on the turn of the key. I have seen video of it running up until spring but now apparently it isn't. The seller reports that it could be something simple such as a fuel cut relay and that it was idling with high revs prior to this.

Would you go for it? It's at a pretty fair price
