Lip ties in newborn- to release or not release?

Hi, everyone!

TLDR: After meeting with a lactation consultant, I learned my 7w old has a lip tie. It’s not severe but significant enough that it was suggested to be looked at by a surgeon/pediatric dentist for a laser release.

Looking for insight from those who have had these released or chose not to have them released and what your experiences were either way.

I’m exclusively breast feeding and introducing a bottle has been unsuccessful.

**MORE BACKGROUND BELOW**

I’m a second time mama with my newborn, 7w old.

After weeks of baby’s extreme fussiness, colic, and this overall seemingly being uncomfortable 90% of the time, I met with a lactation consultant yesterday.

Baby has a lip tie of upper lip and it’s clearly affecting her feeds and potentially causing extreme bodily tension due to the overcompensation of latching. The consultant said it’s not a severe tie but it’s worth having a doctor look at it to make the final call.

I have to say, this poor little girl has been miserable. She generally sleeps well but easily spends over half the day crying, spitting up/puking and writhing in what I’m sure is pain. As much as I want to say she’s a happy baby, she really hasn’t been. And as many of you know, we want to do whatever we can for our babies!

We have an appointment with a Webster certified chiro this evening for the body tension. And I’m here just wracking my brain on if her body tension is causing the poor latch more than the tie, or if the tie is truly the root of these issues.

I want to avoid the surgery if possible but I’m also mindful that she may actually need this. I know this is a common issue and procedure, but it’s moreso the recovery and having to relearn how to latch that I’m worried about.

I’m also supposed to be returning to work with my full time job very soon and also have a toddler (who had absolutely none of these issues) so this has been a lot!

She IS gaining weight and otherwise healthy. She was born 5lbs 9oz and is now 8lbs 14oz. We have eliminated a food allergy possibility.

Any insight is much appreciated as time isn’t really on my side but I also want to feel confident with my decision.

TIA!

Pennsylvania police officer resigns to compete on Netflix reality show Love Island

I’ve been quite a sleepy Redditor lately, but I simply couldn’t pass up posting this article.

The mayor isn’t happy with the resignation; citing the thousands of dollars spent on training and a vacancy that cannot be filled until next year. The officer resigned with less than a year of service.
