Power Outage overnight in northern Irondequoit - affected region (2000+ customers per RG&E)
Last night at almost exactly 4:00 AM, all power went out in our local area in north Irondequoit. Normally when we’ve had outages it was a small chunk of our street since it’s split into several portions of the system, but this was a *total* blackout of everything within the circled area that wasn’t solar or independently-powered - including the stoplights and street lamps too!
The power came back on at around 5:40AM, but in the meantime it was a rather strange experience due to the sheer completeness of the darkness. My fiancé and I went out with our lanterns on the street to take a look and snap a few pictures (location data removed before posting), and then (after calling RG&E and hearing that 2000 customers were without power) we did a drive-around to see how far it reached.
The blackout extended to the west all the way to the Pattonwood bridge (lights were on on the other side in Charlotte), east to the far-east side of Lakeshore Blvd, north as far as the lake, and south as far as Colebrook Road. South of that the power was still on.
Honestly, the most strange part was the stoplights and street lamps being *completely* out over such a wide area, as some of them usually have some sort of backups. The only other places we saw with any power were a couple houses along the “Gold Coast” in the northeast, but I assumed those were backup generators since that’s the fancy district as far as this region goes.
Just wanted to post this with extra details in case it helps anyone else affected in the area by knowing how far it reached. I hope Herremas grocery didn’t lose any frozen stock/that their freezers automatically came back on. 😬
