AIO for leaving my (21F) boyfriend (24M) at the airport after he “tested” me?

My boyfriend and I were supposed to fly to his cousin’s wedding this weekend. We’ve been dating for almost 2 years and overall things are good, but lately he’s gotten really into these weird “loyalty test” TikToks and relationship podcasts.

We got to the airport at 5am. I paid for the Uber because he said he’d cover breakfast. While we’re in line for security, he suddenly goes quiet and starts acting cold. I ask what’s wrong and he says “nothing.” Then, after like 20 minutes, he tells me he purposely put his wallet in my tote bag without telling me to “see what kind of person I am.”

I thought he was joking at first. He wasn’t.

He said he wanted to know if I’d “steal” from him if given the opportunity because apparently his ex used to take money from his wallet. I was honestly stunned. I handed him the wallet and told him that was insane behavior. He doubled down and said a “trustworthy partner” would understand why he did it.

At this point we’re literally standing in TSA and people are staring because we’re arguing quietly but intensely. I asked him if he seriously thought I’d rob him after two years together. He said “you never REALLY know someone.”

Something in me just snapped. I told him I wasn’t getting on a plane with someone who treats me like a suspect instead of a partner. I walked out of the airport, got another Uber home, and muted my phone.

Now his family is blowing me up saying I embarrassed him and “abandoned” him before an important family event. His mom texted me that relationships require “grace” and that he’s been hurt before.

A few of my friends think this is a giant red flag and say he was trying to humiliate me or bait me into failing some weird test. But one friend thinks I overreacted because I could’ve just dealt with it after the wedding instead of leaving him stranded right before boarding.

He’s currently texting me paragraphs about how my reaction “proved his fears about people.”
