Available May 20 at 1am UTC +2 Berlin

What’s new:

• 4K ARKit Image Support

Higher quality image capture for cleaner datasets and better reconstruction results.

• Tracking Recovery Guide

Helps recover AR tracking by guiding users back to the last stable scan position instead of restarting the scan.

• Experimental 20 Meter Depth Range

Extended LiDAR range for larger outdoor and indoor environments. Still experimental and being improved.

• Faster Capture + Saving

Reduced processing delays for a smoother scanning workflow.

• UI & Workflow Improvements

General usability, stability and capture workflow refinements.

• iPad Pro Support (M1 / 2021+)

Optimized support for newer iPad Pro devices.

Upcoming:

• RealityScan Export Support

Direct CSV + LAS export pipeline with ARKit camera poses.

• External Photogrammetry Integration

Use Lumina scans as a spatial base for DSLR and drone image alignment workflows.

• Auto Magic Capture Mode

Lumina automatically analyzes the scene, calibrates the camera for optimal scan quality and locks settings such as:

• shutter speed

• ISO

• white balance / Kelvin

• exposure behavior

This helps create more stable and photogrammetry-friendly datasets directly from mobile capture.

Long term goal:

Making high quality LiDAR + photogrammetry workflows accessible directly from mobile devices while remaining compatible with professional reconstruction pipelines.

Big thanks to everyone testing the app, sharing feedback, reporting issues and helping improve Lumina 3D

Lumina 3D Light — Unlimited Free Scans & COLMAP Exports

After releasing Lumina 3D, we spent a lot of time reading feedback from the community — especially on Reddit.

A lot of people liked the idea behind the app, but many also asked for a simpler version:

something without accounts, subscriptions, or setup friction.

So we decided to build exactly that.

Lumina 3D Light is a lightweight, fully local version of Lumina 3D focused purely on fast 3D capture workflows.

### No account

### No subscription

### Everything stays on your device

## Features Lumina 3D Light

- Unlimited scans and exports

- Native COLMAP dataset generation

- Direct dataset export from the app

- Stable ARKit camera pose tracking

- Real-time sparse point cloud preview

- Optimized for Gaussian Splatting workflows

- Optimized for indoor capture

- Compatible with Postshot and LightField Studio (Undistorted images)

Lumina 3D Light focuses on the core capture workflow and does not include all advanced features available in the full version of Lumina 3D.

We simply wanted to make fast local 3D dataset capture more accessible for everyone who just wants to scan, export, and create.

Lumina 3D is an iPhone app for capturing Gaussian Splatting datasets using LiDAR-assisted camera poses fully locally.

Here are some of the core settings that let you control your camera and capture cleaner datasets:

* Shutter → control motion blur & brightness

* ISO & EV → fine-tune exposure

* Kelvin → lock white balance to avoid color shifts

* Depth Range → filter unwanted points & reduce drift

* History Points → keep overlap between scans

* Merge & Export → merge scans and export datasets directly compatible for Postshot / Lightfield

Why this matters:

Gaussian Splatting depends heavily on consistent input images. Auto exposure, white balance shifts, or unstable captures can reduce reconstruction quality.

With Lumina 3D you can lock everything down and capture clean, consistent datasets directly on your iPhone.

App Store release: May 1st

Lumina 3D lets you capture Gaussian Splatting datasets directly on your iPhone Pro, using LiDAR-assisted camera poses no external setup required. No COLMAP

New:

- Improved capture quality and export pipeline

- Smooth and stable scanning experience

Features:

Lumina 3D gives you full control over your capture process:

- Manually adjust shutter, ISO, Kelvin, and EV

- See a live preview while scanning

- Track captured images, points, and FPS in per Scan in Realtime.

- Use history points to understand coverage and progress from previous scans

- Depth Range lets you define the distance in which you are able to Capture Points

Record multiple scans and merge them into a unified point cloud directly on your device.

Export & Training

Once your scan is complete, you can export your dataset as:

- Postshot-compatible

- Lightfield-compatible

All datasets are saved locally and ready to use.

-No COLMAP required

-Contains Images Folder, PLY and Transforms.json

Workflow:

Lumina 3D captures Gaussian Splatting datasets on iPhone Pro using LiDAR-assisted camera poses.

Camera settings such as shutter, ISO, Kelvin, and EV can be adjusted manually.

Depth Range lets you define the distance at which you are able to capture points.

While recording a dataset, every previously captured point from previous scans is visible through history points, and the live preview helps you adjust lighting and other parameters during scanning, whether indoors or outdoors, improving image quality for more detail. You continuously see the number of scanned points, captured images, and the available FPS per scan.

After completing atleast two scans, pressing the Done button allows you to review all scans, remove incorrect ones, and merge the valid scans into a unified point cloud. Once satisfied, you can export the Gaussian Splat dataset as a Postshot- or Lightfield-compatible dataset and save it locally on your device.

Complete your workflow by importing the chosen dataset, including the captured images, .ply, and transforms.json, (No colmap required) into your preferred tool to train your self-scanned Gaussian Splat model all using only your iPhone Pro.
