My sister just asked if I would be interested in joining the family to purchase a large gift for our brother and that everyone else had already agreed to it. She felt that he has been so generous lately that she wanted to get him something special. My finances are not the greatest rn (which she knows), and I am currently pinching pennies to save up for an upcoming trip as it is. On top of this, the “generosity” my sister is speaking of refers to her specifically. I haven’t recieved a gift from this brother in years, so it seems a little unfair to be expected to pitch for a 500$ gift.
I don’t have any issue with my brother, I just think it’s a huge ask. Problem is, my family is kinda toxic and if I choose not to I’ll be called out, ridiculed behind my back and made to feel guilty later. Should I just say no and try not to care about it, or should I just get over myself and pitch in?
