D28, light strings to mediums: what a change

I know there are countless discussions on this topic, but just wanted to share my experience. I have had my D28 for a couple of months now and always put light strings her. I was a tiny bit dissapointed with the volume and attack, to the point that my Stewmac dreadnought kit (mahogany back and sides) was louder with similar strings (thanks to scalloped versus straight bracing?).

Finally caved after reading a lot of discussions and put medium strings on the D28 (poor fingers…), but WOW… suddenly she roars, huge volume, deep bass, longer sustain, better attack. Does need some adjustment in setup, though neck didnt move that much. Guess my fingers need to get used to the “harder” playability, the difference is uncanny.

I was more or less satisfied with the D28, but now I’m in love and finally understand what everybody is talking about as to the D28 sound.

New 000 12 fret build, WIP

Hi all! This community was incredibly helpful during my last build (Stewmac dreadnought kit). Started a new build: 000 12 fret Stewmac kit.

Goal is to have it playable and with fewer issues than the last build (due to inexperience, especially cosmetic). Also a bit more customization: golden color tuners, other binding, rosewood peghead veneer instead of (I think?) ebony from the kit. Work in progress, but am enjoying it more than the last kit!
