Path to getting into a shop?
question for anyone in here who might have some knowledge on the subject. Whats the best way of working myself from having only a handful of automotive knowledge, to getting into a shop where i can learn everything i neeed, to eventually work in a performance shop, and open my own?
For reference, im 19,ive been working a lot of random blue collar jobs the last 3.5 years. as far
as automotive goes, ive revived a mini bike and a ford ranger and do most of my own basic maintence on my families cars. i know how to do oil changes, replace coolant, coolant hoses, thermostat & housing, serp belts, alternators, brakes, and im sure theres a bit more i could do if i just watched a bit of youtube. As far as minibike wrenching goes, ive done flywheel changes, gov deletes, breaking in engines, chain alignment, valve springs, and carb tuning. Ive also got about 60 hours of welding and my osha 30 card if that even means anything XD.
and if it matters my preference of cars/ cars id wanna work on one day arent super strict. i like a lot of late 90s to mid 2000s gm productions like the c5 and c6, w06 transam, trailblazer ss, impalas. big fan of jdm too, supras, skylines, 350/370z, infinitys, small selection of hondas & acuras, etc. and i like a selection of beamers like the e30 e36 e39 e46 e90 e92 and a lot of the newer/newish performance models from the last decade or two. im also obsessed with sports bikes.
but end of the day all im trying to gauge is where i can just get my foot in the door. dunno if this is the right place to start asking questions but im askin.
