This is pickles, my first ever French bulldog. I had pugs my entire life and while there are some similarities, there are MANY differences. Anyone else here that have had both? What do you find are the biggest differences and similarities between the breeds? I absolutely adored my two female pugs (one fawn, and one black) … they were my girls. We got this babe (pickles) at 16 weeks and this it my take on the French VS Pug.
Similarities - they are both Velcro dogs who think they are “big” dogs. Big personalities (albeit, the frenchie is more demanding … almost neurotic about balls/ wrestling / play). Obviously they are similar in size with the frenchie being more robust (we call Pickles our muscle girl). Both extremely sweet dispositions, INCREDIBLE with small children and other animals (however the pugs didnt like other dogs quite as much as pickles does). Food motivation in both. Roughly the same level of vocal-ness. Sweet stare that makes you melt. Overheating factor
Differences - could just be my frenchie but she wont stop playing. Like is this normal? If I threw a ball for her for 5 hours she would just go the entire time. Like I said it’s almost to the point of neuroticism. The pugs liked to play but this is extreme. Pickles is THE BOSS, sweet with other dogs but they bow down to HER. Athleticism, obviously I have a fit/ muscular frenchie but like she doesn’t get tired. She would walk/ hike with me forever. Pugs got tired after 6 blocks. THE PREY DRIVE. Honestly, if I knew about the prey drive, I may have gotten another pug. I love her dearly but cannot stand every time the cats move an inch she’s after them (they’re friends but it’s annoying as all hell). Frenchies are less glutenous? Mine grazes where the pugs wolfed food like they’d never see it again. I remember I went to work one day and there was a brand new 17.6 pound bag of dog food that hadn’t been opened, they broke into the closet and between the two of them they finished half the bag while I was gone to work 😂😭
Both so loveable. Would love to hear from you.
