What's the point of trains?

So I had a debate with my friend about the advantage of trains over belts. I was trying to prove that belts are worse, but i couldn't find any arguments! He said that trains are harder to set up and if you use them then you will have bursts of resources, rather than a constant flow. I said that trains have higher throughput, however he said that you can just add another line of belts and I don't know what he's wrong about!

Also when it comes to pipe it's even worse, because pipes throughput is almost infinite, so you can just stick a bunch of pumps and be happy.

Please help me find arguments!

Sorry for bad english
