IIM Mumbai Result Fiasco — Students Are Literally Losing Lakhs Because of This Delay
I genuinely don’t understand how one of the top B-schools in the country can handle admissions this poorly.
Every major IIM and almost every reputed MBA college has already released its final results. Meanwhile, IIM Mumbai is still silent, with no proper communication, no clear timeline, and students being forced to sit in uncertainty every single day.
People might think this is “just a delay.” It is NOT.
This delay affects the entire MBA admission ecosystem.
Here’s what actually happens:
Thousands of students have already converted other colleges and paid hefty admission fees to secure a seat because nobody knows when IIM Mumbai will release results. These fees are not small amounts — many colleges charge ₹1–2 lakhs or even more in the initial rounds.
Now imagine this scenario:
A student joins another college because there’s no update from IIM Mumbai. Then suddenly, after weeks of waiting, IIM Mumbai releases results and the student converts a better option.
What happens then?
The student has to withdraw from the earlier college and lose lakhs of rupees in the process.
And this won’t happen to just one person. This will affect hundreds, maybe thousands of aspirants because waitlist movements across colleges are dependent on top colleges releasing results on time.
When IIM Mumbai delays, every college below it sees delayed waitlist movement. The entire chain reaction shifts downward, and students end up paying the price financially and mentally.
But the biggest issue is not even the delay anymore.
It is the complete lack of transparency.
Students have been continuously contacting the admissions office for updates. Every time, a new tentative timeline is given.
First, students were told:
“Results will likely come by Friday.”
Then on Friday, when students followed up again, they were told:
“Results should come on Monday.”
Then on Monday, after students flooded the office with calls and emails, the response suddenly changed to:
“We never said results would definitely come today.”
“We don’t know when exactly they will be released.”
“Maybe sometime this week.”
How is this acceptable from a premier institution?
If there is a genuine issue causing delays, students deserve transparency and proper communication. People are making financial decisions involving lakhs of rupees, education loans, hostel bookings, resignations from jobs, and career choices.
This is not some minor administrative inconvenience.
MBA aspirants already go through CAT pressure, interviews, waitlists, career anxiety, family expectations, and financial stress. The least a top institution can provide is professionalism and accountability during admissions.
At this point, somebody has to be held accountable for this situation.
Whether it is the admissions office, the administration, or some governing body overseeing these institutions — someone needs to step in. Because what is happening right now is unfair to every aspirant waiting for clarity about their future.
Students are not asking for favors.
They are asking for transparency, timely communication, and basic respect for the time, money, and mental peace they have invested in this process.
