This is getting ridiculous.

It's an 04 R1150R. Having already replaced a dead battery, and all the accompanying fun of getting to it, I was recently almost left for dead again, far from home, when the new battery (OEM from dealer, nice product) didn't start the bike and acted drained, but not quite dead. I have a meter and it was showing 13.8 consistently so I know it's not the stator/alternator. Anyway, after a few moments of lament and colorful language, I tried it again and the bike reluctantly fired up. No problems since then.
But it got me thinking that I want a way to jump the battery if I'm out in the world somewhere and don't want to take the bike apart. I installed the pictured battery cables, electrical tape (lots) over the exposed ends and taped together in a way that they could never touch in any circumstance. They fit under the seat no problem.
It's simple and inelegant but I believe it gives me the ability to jump the bike if I ever need to, while being safely under seat and not affecting the normal battery operation. Is this just a stupid or unsafe idea? Seems like it would work. Many bikes and decades of riding and I've never had a bike with such an inaccessible battery.
UPDATE: ISSUES FIXED! It was indeed that the throttle cable was unseated down at the bottom , which I did not see when I checked the cable the first time. It obviously fixed the throttle problems and also for some reason also the clutch rattle. Well, it was quite a learning experience, taking the tank off twice. I was intimidated by the prospect but it wasn't so bad once you've done it.
THANK YOU FOR ALL THE HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS!
Ran fine before battery died. Added a USB charger and trickle charger wire. Simple items. Now bike runs like shit, loud clutch rattle in neutral, and bike runs like the fueling is messed up. Yes, I reconnected the quick connects correctly (labled red and blue) and the two breather lines.
So basically I just replaced the battery, added two simple transparent items and bike is way off. Any ideas what could be causing this and hopefully a fix. The bike sat for about 10 days with the bad battery as I was out of town.
Any suggestions welcome
Gone for a week and she acts like I just got back from the war.
It’s old and slow. Like me. Unlike me, it’s in perfect condition and MAN it is fun to ride.
As my brother in law said, I've gone over to the dark side. Got the cases and a Giving top box, too. It rides unlike any bike I've ever had...never had a boxer before, of course. I'm loving it! To me, it's like part (big!) supermoto, part sport bike, part tourer. Man! I can't get over what a great bike it is. Even though it's already hot here, if I'm awake I'm thinking of reasons to go for a ride.
I found the obvious bottom bracket location but I can’t figure out the top brackets. There’s a longer large bolt that will replace a current bolt but the only ones I can see are kind of unreachable without tiny baby hands and they seem to be the wrong angle.
Suggestions welcome! TIA
She’s a terror in the early hours of the morning some nights but she loves me more than my kids do. Not really, but I bet it’s closer than I’d like.
As soon as they heard that La-Z-boy pop out, they'd come running.
