JIT

Hi all!

Has anyone dealt with this situation before? I submitted an NIH application last year and resubmitted it this year. We recently received a JIT request for the initial submission and are now preparing the Other Support.

Should i list both the initial submission and the resubmission as pending? If so, do i need to provide any explanation in the overlap section, or is it okay to just list both? TIA!

JIT

We received a JIT request asking for Other Support. The PI I support is listed as a mentor on the K01 application. Should this K01 be included on the mentor’s Other Support with 0% effort? TIA!

DOD Current and Pending

Hi everyone! Quick question for those who’ve submitted a DoD CDMRP proposal.

Do you include the proposal you’re currently submitting as pending on the Current & Pending Support form?

Thanks!

NIH award Closeout

Hi everyone, this is my first time assisting a PI with an NIH closeout. I noticed that on the Closeout Status page (eRA Commons), the action for the Final RPPR is “Process Final RPPR.” However, on the eRA Commons Online Help website, the screenshot shows “Initiate Final Progress Report.”

Is there a difference between “Process Final RPPR” and “Initiate Final Progress Report,” or are they referring to the same step? Thanks!

DOD

Hi everyone, I’m preparing a DOD submission. Can anyone confirm whether we should use the NIH Biosketch Common Form or the NSF Biosketch Common Form? I checked the specific FOA, but it doesn’t mention which form should be used.

If you have any guidance or a reference link, I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Carryover NIH

NIH Carryover Request with Subaward – budget section question

Hey everyone,
Our subawardee is requesting a carryover and sent us their PHS 398 budget, Checklist, budget justification, and explanation of the unobligated balance, scientific justification.

is the budget package below correct?

  1. Prime’s PHS 398 budget showing only the consortium costs (subaward direct costs + F&A), with no Checklist for prime(as we already recovered the F&A on sub-award costs in the previous year)
  2. Subawardee’s PHS 398 budget.
  3. Subawardee’s Checklist.
  4. Subawardee’s budget justification.

Is this the correct way to prepare the carryover budget package for this case?
Thanks!

Progress Report

Hi all,

If our PI is an MPI, but the Contact PI is at another university, will our PI be able to view the submitted RPPR in eRA Commons? Or is access limited to the Contact PI and the Contact PI’s institution?

Foreign travel

Hey everyone, quick question.
For an NIH R01, foreign travel was not included in the budget. If the PI now needs to travel internationally (attending a conference) for the project, can we rebudget existing funds to cover the travel, or does this require NIH prior approval?
Any specific NIH link regarding this would be appreciated.
Thanks!

Recertification

Hey everyone! For CRA recertification, I’m looking for options similar to the NYU RAD series, where you can watch recorded (post-live) sessions and still receive contact hour credit (at least that’s my understanding).
It looks like the NYU RAD series has about 17 sessions, which comes out to roughly 20 contact hours.

Since CRA recertification requires 42 contact hours, where did you earn the remaining hours?
Are there any other organizations that offer similar recorded webinars and provide documentation (e.g., a certificate or other verification) that can be used for CRA recertification?

NCE? Carryover?

Hi, all!

We have an NIH award ending on August 31, 2026, and our first no-cost extension has been approved, extending the project period to August 31, 2027.

My question is: if there is an unobligated balance remaining as of August 31, 2026, do we need to submit a separate carryover request to use those funds during the no-cost extension period, or does the unobligated balance automatically carry forward with the approved no-cost extension?

Thanks!

Adding a new subaward

Has anyone recently submitted a request to add a new subaward under an NIH Prior Approval request?

If so, have you heard back yet? If your request was approved or denied, did your Program Official (PO) or Grants Management Specialist (GMS) notify you by email, or was a notice issued in eRA Commons (similar to a Notice of Award)?

I’d appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

Department to central

I’m curious to hear from people who have moved from a department RA role to a central office.

How was the transition? Did you enjoy the move, or did you prefer working in a department? What were the biggest differences in workload, work-life balance, career growth?

Would you make the same decision again? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any advice for someone considering this career path.

NIH grant submission 2 week extension

Quick NIH submission question.

Our PI is serving as an ad hoc reviewer on an NIH study section, so our application is eligible for the two-week submission extension.

For the cover letter, do we need to specifically mention that we’re using the extension? Do we need to identify the study section or include any details about the PI’s ad hoc reviewer service, or is that unnecessary?

Also, is there an NIH policy or guidance page that addresses this? I’d appreciate any references.
Thanks!

NIH Biosketch

Quick NIH biosketch question: I received a biosketch with journal links instead of PMCIDs under the Products section. Is that okay? Most NIH biosketches I receive include PMCIDs, but this one only has links to the publications.

Effort over 12 months

For NIH Current & Pending (Other Support), if a PI’s total committed effort (current and pending) exceeds 12 calendar months because of pending projects, what language do you typically include under Statement of Potential Overlap? (is there NIH-preferred wording that your institution uses?)

OS effort

For NIH K01 application: The mentor’s current committed effort is under 12 calendar months, but if all pending applications are funded, the total effort would exceed 12 calendar months (100%).

How do you typically handle this on the Current & Pending Support form? Do you include a general commitment overlap statement (e.g., “If all pending projects are funded, effort will be adjusted as necessary”) for all current/pending projects, or do you identify a specific project whose effort would be reduced?
