Be honest: bold color or classic silver/black for your next bag?

The eternal luggage question, and we want your gut answer.

Team Bold: life's too short for another black suitcase, you can spot it from across the carousel in two seconds, and it's just more you.

Team Classic: silver and black go with everything, never look dated, and hide scuffs better over years of travel.

So where do you land? And if you went bold, do you still love the color a year later, or do you secretly wish you'd played it safe? Drop a pic of yours if you've got one.

Which color did you go with, and why?

Always curious how people land on a color when there's more than one option — is it purely aesthetic, did you go practical (easier to spot on a carousel, hides scuffs better), or did you just grab whatever was in stock? Bonus points if you'll drop a photo of it in the wild.

Did you buy your Level8 for yourself, or did someone talk you into it?

Trying to get a sense of how people are actually finding us — did you stumble onto it doing your own research, or did a friend/family member/random Reddit thread convince you to try it out? And if someone recommended it to you, did you end up doing the same for someone else?

What convinced you to go with Level8 over a bigger name brand?

We know a lot of you did your research and had other options on the table — Away, Monos, Samsonite, whatever else was in the running. We're always curious what actually tipped the decision our way. Was it a specific feature, a price comparison, a review that convinced you, or just dumb luck finding a good deal?

No wrong answers, just want to know what's actually working so we know what to keep doing.

What's your go to way to stack a backpack on a wide-handle carry-on?

Wide top handles are one of those things you don't appreciate until you have one. Easier to lift, more packin space, easier to grab off the belt, and roomy enough to actually rest a backpack on top for the walk to the gate. But there's a low-key debate about the best way to do it.

Group 1: turn the backpack sideways so it sits across the full width of the handle. Uses the whole bar and feels the most planted.

Group 2: keep it straight up-and-down. These folks worry that turning a backpack sideways means the zipper's facing out and stuff could slide out if it's not fully closed, so they'd rather keep it upright and cinch the trolley sleeve down.

We lean sideways ourselves, with the bag zipped and balanced across a wide handle, we've never had the spill problem, and it feels the most stable.

So where do you land? sideways or straight-on?

And to the group 2 folks: has stuff ever actually fallen out, or is it more of a just-in-case thing?

Bonus points for a photo of how you rig yours.

Which feature do you actually use the most — the compression system, the wide handle, or the all-wheel spin?

We build a lot into these bags, but we're always curious which parts actually earn their keep once you're living out of the suitcase versus which ones sound good on paper. For some of you it's probably the compression when you're packing for the trip home, for others it might be something smaller like the handle grip.

What's the one feature you'd genuinely miss if your next bag didn't have it?

Fall travel season is coming up — what's the first trip on your calendar?

Curious what everyone's got planned as the weather turns. A work trip, a long weekend, something bigger you've been saving up for? Drop it below, and if you're bringing a Level 8 along, let us know which one's coming out of the closet for it.

We'll be doing a few packing tip posts over the next few weeks based on what people are actually planning for, so this helps us figure out what to cover first.

Where's the farthest your Level 8 has traveled with you?

We hear about a lot of trips secondhand through reviews, but we'd love to hear it straight from you. Longest flight, most countries in one trip, weirdest place you've ended up gate-checking it — tell us where your bag has been.

Bonus points if you've got a photo of it looking a little worn from the miles. We'll pick a few to share (with credit) if that's cool with you.

Went with LEVEL8 over Away/Monos at basically the same price point. Anyone else pick the "less hyped" option when cost wasn't a factor?

Had all four (Away, Monos, Béis, LEVEL8) pulled up at nearly identical price points and ended up going with LEVEL8 mostly because of the shell material and wheel spec, not because it saved me anything. Feels like the opposite of how these threads usually go, where price is the tiebreaker.

Curious if anyone else has picked the less talked-about brand once price stopped being the deciding factor. What actually swung it for you?

This is the suitcase I went with: https://www.level8cases.com/products/adventure-carry-on-20?variant=46573106200799

I love the front opening and wide handle which makes it standout for me.

Full matching luggage set vs. buying pieces one at a time as you actually need them - anyone regret either way?

Trying to decide between just buying a full 3-piece set now (cheaper per-bag, but I don't need a checked bag for probably a year) vs. buying only the carry-on now and adding pieces later as trips require it.

For anyone who bought a set upfront — did you actually use all the pieces, or is one still sitting in a closet? And for anyone who bought individually, did the pieces end up mismatched/annoying, or did it not matter?

Do packing cubes and compression actually save space, or is it placebo?

I've seen packing cubes treated like a religious experience in some threads and a complete waste of money in others. Tried compression cubes for the first time on my last trip and honestly couldn't tell if I fit more in or just felt more organized.

For anyone who's used both compression cubes and a suitcase with built-in compression straps — is there an actual volume difference, or is the real benefit just not digging through a chaos pile at security?

I've been using these ones from Level8 and love it (https://www.level8cases.com/products/packing-cube-travel-set-6-pack?variant=8587715510495)

What finally made you switch luggage brands after years of loyalty?

I used the same suitcase brand for almost a decade out of habit, not because it was actually good. It wasn't until a wheel snapped off in an airport (of course, on the way to a connection) that I even looked at alternatives.

Curious what the actual breaking point was for other people — a bag that fell apart, a warranty that didn't hold up, or just finally trying something new and realizing what you'd been missing? Trying to figure out what's actually worth prioritizing before my next purchase.

Hard shell vs soft shell carry-on — has anyone actually been happy long-term with either?

Every "best carry-on" post turns into a hard shell vs soft shell fight and I don't think anyone actually settles it. I've had both and each has a dealbreaker: soft shell stretches to fit more but scuffs and sags after a year, hard shell holds its shape but shows every scratch and doesn't flex when you're over on space.

For people who've stuck with one style for multiple trips (not just a first-week review) — which one actually held up, and did you regret the switch either way?

What's a carry-on feature you didn't know you needed until you didn't have it?

Flying back from a trip last week and my zipper pull snapped off mid-security-line. Not a huge deal, but it made me realize how many "small" luggage features actually save your trip until they're gone.

For me it's been: 360° spinner wheels (dragging a 2-wheeler through an airport is a workout), a hard shell that doesn't dent after one rough gate-check, and actual expansion capacity for the flight home when you've bought too much.

What's the feature you took for granted until a bag without it made your life harder? Curious what people actually notice in daily use vs. what looks good on a spec sheet.
