3 Red Flags Stopping Brands From Hiring You 🔴🚫⛔✋🏻🛑⛔️

If you’re working on your portfolio and hoping to land more brand deals, here’s a reality check straight from the screening room.

We just reviewed 169 new creator applications for our August campaign. The result? Only 50 made the cut to be presented to the brand.

If you want to catch a brand’s eye, these are the top three red flags that lead to an instant pass:

1. AI-Generated TikTok Covers AI thumbnails might look slick, but to brands, they come off as clinical, overly salesy, and insincere. Brands want real human connection, not a feed full of synthetic Polish. Authentic, natural frames win every single time over AI-generated gloss.

2. Product-Only Content If your entire profile is just product shots set to trending audio, you're missing the point. It’s totally understandable if you’re camera-shy, but if you want consistent opportunities, you have to get comfortable showing your face and using your voice.

  • Talk to the camera.
  • Tell stories.
  • Share genuine experiences and insights.

Brands aren't looking for human display stands—they’re hiring storytellers who can genuinely connect with a live audience.

3. Zero Content Variety Creators who consistently land deals know how to stretch their output without losing their identity. On a single filming day with one makeup look, a top creator might shoot:

  • A Get Ready With Me (GRWM)
  • A quick tutorial
  • An honest product review
  • A slice-of-life vlog
  • A lighthearted, relatable trend piece
  • An educational tip or breakdown

When you scroll through their feed, you see a living, breathing personality—not a digital catalog or an online flea market.

At the end of the day, turning on a camera isn't enough. Content creation is a craft. It demands dynamic storytelling, deliberate branding, audience engagement, and genuine presence.

Everyone starts at step one. The creators who repeatedly win campaigns are simply the ones who never stop refining their approach. Treat your content like a true profession, and brands will start treating you like the professional you are.

SO MANY NEW CREATORS ARE COMPLAINING THESE DAYS

🛑Please read and digest this carefully before commenting.

We’ve been in this industry for over five years, and for us, this isn't just a side hobby. It's our bread and butter and primary source of income.

Because of that, we’ve seen almost everything: dream clients, nightmare clients, late payments, hit campaigns, rejected pitches, and tough negotiations. We’re not saying we know it all, but we’ve been around the block long enough to understand how this business actually works.

Look, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking for what you're worth. Creators genuine deserve to be paid fairly.

But you also have to ask yourself: With so many creators out there today, why should a brand pick you?

What sets you apart? Have you actually delivered real results? Do you have a solid portfolio? Is your content consistent? Are you easy to communicate with? Are you professional to work with?

Because real talk: brands don't just look at follower counts. What matters way more to them is working with a creator who is dependable and easy to collaborate with.

Another thing... payment terms of 30 to 90 days are standard practice for big companies and agencies.

It’s not because they’re trying to stiff you. Marketing, finance, and accounting teams simply have internal processes to follow. It works the exact same way in TV commercials, production houses, and international gigs. If those terms don't work for you, it's completely fine to walk away. But that doesn't instantly make the brand or agency a walking red flag.

And for those asking why we stay anonymous: It’s simple. We’re protecting our brand.

Content creation is our business. Staying anonymous isn't about being weak; it’s about choosing to stay out of petty drama to safeguard our livelihoods and clients.

Again, this isn't meant to put anyone down.

Consider it a gentle reality check: in this industry, your biggest asset isn't your follower count—it's your reputation.

With the market flooded with creators, the real question shouldn't just be: "What's my rate?"

A much better question is: "Why me?"

Once you have a clear answer to that, raising your value and rates happens naturally. ✨

Investment Banking vs Private Equity 📊

Same fancy suits. Totally different day jobs!

• Investment Banking (The Matchmakers) 🏦
They help companies buy, sell, or go public. They get paid upfront fees for doing the deal, win or lose—zero skin in the game.

• Private Equity (The Flippers) 💰
They buy whole companies, fix them up, and sell them later for a profit. They actually own the business, so their payout depends entirely on making it successful.

The Quick Takeaway:
Bankers set up the wedding 💒
PE firms gotta live with the spouse 💍

  1. Service vs. Ownership: Bankers sell advice; PE buys assets.

  2. The Pipeline: PE loves hiring former bankers because they already know how to build the deals.

[Part 2] Tips for newbie creators or those in the middle of their journey ✨

  • Invest in good lighting or a good camera/phone 📱💡

This depends on what kind of creator you are. If you're an affiliate, plenty of affiliates have blurry videos but make up for it with great marketing—though it's obviously better if you have both. If you do UGC (User-Generated Content), you definitely need a good camera. If you're a general content creator, do whatever works for you.

  • You can have different niches 🎯

You can have multiple content pillars like: fashion + lifestyle + beauty; technology + trends + computers; gym + wellness + food; and many others. From there, analyze what resonates most with your audience and post that type of content more often.

  • Please, please don't be desperate for paid collabs ❌

Please!!! I see so many newbie creators who immediately want paid deals and wonder why they aren't getting picked. As I said in Tip 1, use X-deals to build your skills and grow your account. If you think your content is good (that's great, I'm proud of you), ask yourself if it fits the brand's image. If it doesn't, you need to keep improving—and having room for growth is a good thing.

That’s all for now. If you have more tips, feel free to drop them in the comment section! 💭 😉

Tips for newbie creators or those in the middle of their journey ✨

Here are my tips:

  • X-deals are just stepping stones

You don't always need to accept X-deals (product exchanges), especially if the product isn't good and you know it's only worth cheap. Even if it's worth thousands, if it requires a mountain of deliverables, it's still not worth it. Don't rely on X-deals all the time. If your portfolio is full of X-deals from cheap brands that aren't even FDA-approved, do you think that looks good? It might even put your account at risk.

  • Do not join engagement groups for views (if you're an affiliate)

Because your videos will only circulate among them. Whatever and whoever you constantly like, that’s all you’ll see on your feed; only those types of content. Platforms can also detect this as bot activity, especially if they spam your account, which is one of the reasons for low views or shadowbans. They are not your target market. The right audience will come.

  • Why did your views suddenly drop to two digits?

You're shadowbanned. Meaning your videos aren't showing up on the FYP (For You Page). What’s the reason? Spamming likes or non-organic followers/likes. What to do? Give your account a rest for 2 days, then post consistently.

That’s all for now. I'll continue in the next thread..

If you have more tips, feel free to drop them in the comment section! 😉

Collecting egg trays 🥚

This is just from personal experience and never knew collecting egg trays would be profitable here. I would just throw them away before but now I collect it and sell them to small store owners or poultry. People are actually buying it.

So yeah just sharing this.

Sharing My Experience as a UGC Creator

Hey everyone! 👋

I wanted to share a quick story from my own journey that happened recently. I'm not here to start drama, but I think it's so important for us to talk openly about setting boundaries and recognizing our value as creators.

For a bit of context: I’ve been creating UGC for almost 2 years now, and I’ve worked really hard to build up my skills and deliver solid work.

So, I reached out to a brand in my niche recently. They asked to see my portfolio, and I excitedly sent over my link alongside previous videos I’ve done with similar brands to show what I could do for them.

Their response? They told me my rate was “VERY EXPENSIVE.”

Then came the kicker: “WE ALREADY HAVE AN AMBASSADOR AND IT’S EVEN FREE.” They even attached a photo of this ambassador.

Honestly, it stung a bit at first. It felt completely unnecessary and deeply unprofessional. Look, I get it that budgets vary, and not every brand can afford every creator. A simple, "Thank you, but this is outside our current budget" would have been completely fine! But comparing creators and bragging that someone else works "for free" just felt like a slap in the face to the work, time, and strategy we put into our craft.

We don't just "press record." We script, light, film, edit, test hooks, and invest in our equipment. Charging for that isn't being "expensive"—it's running a legitimate business.

This whole experience was a huge wake-up call and a reminder I want to pass on to all of you:

Know your worth and hold the line. Don't let a brand's budget limitations make you doubt your value. 💯

  • Never feel pressured to undercut yourself just because someone claims they can get it "for free" elsewhere. Free content rarely comes with conversion-focused strategy.
  • Respect is a two-way street. Professional, high-caliber brands will always communicate with respect, even when declining or negotiating.
  • If a brand truly values what you bring to the table, they’ll treat you like a partner. Keep your head up, stay firm on your rates, and keep creating!

Have you ever run into a brand that tried to guilt-trip you over your rates or compare you to creators working for free? How did you handle it? 😅
