My bank account is not going to survive this.

I've been watching so many dorm makeover videos online and they got me way too excited. As an incoming freshman I cannot stop buying things.

I found some cute storage bins on sale on tiktok, got a few things from Amazon, and spent way too long walking around Target. And the worst part is my cart is still full on like three different sites. At this point I've realized I just need to stop.I've already bought more than enough and I'm not letting myself add anything else at this point.

Any recommendations for getting dorm essentials in Germany? I’m looking for lightweight, compact stuff that won't be a nightmare to pack up and move when my lease is up.

How many keyboards do you guys actually own?

I bought a new keyboard a while back specifically for gaming and it's been great. Even grabbed a set of keycaps through a product discount on tiktok which made it feel like a whole different board. I'm happy with my setup right now, there's nothing wrong with it at all.

But every single time I scroll past a nice custom build or a clean new colorway, I physically cannot swipe away. I don't even need another one. Is it just me or does everyone here have this problem? How many keyboards deep are you guys at this point?

10 boring things under €50 that simply refuse to die

Every "buy it for life" list turns into "buy it if you're rich." €500 backpack, €350 Dutch oven, a €180 razor in a walnut box. Most of us just want to stop re-buying the same thing every eighteen months.

So I made a different list. The rule: no electronics, no batteries, no coatings that wear off, no seals that rot. If it can't break, it can't die.

Ten things, all under fifty euros:

  1. Opinel No. 8 folding knife — €16. Carbon steel, beechwood handle, twist-lock ring. No screws, no springs. French shepherds have carried these since 1890. Grabbed mine at a camping store, don't even remember which one.

  2. EZ-DUZ-IT can opener — €13. All metal, no rubber grip to rot off, no gear to strip. This is the one your grandparents had that still works. Ugly and immortal. Amazon.

  3. Merkur 34C safety razor — €35. One piece of chrome-plated brass. Blades cost eight cents each. A pack of 100 Astra blades is €9 and lasts over a year. Meanwhile Gillette wants €5 per cartridge. It's a German brand so you can find it everywhere here.

  4. Ball Mason jars, 12-pack — €18. Glass and a metal ring. Storage, drinking glasses, overnight oats, leftover soup, literally anything. People find these in attics from the 1940s and they still seal. Amazon.

  5. Seki Edge stainless nail clipper — €14. Japanese stainless, forged. The blades actually meet. You feel it on the first cut. Six years, hasn't dulled. Amazon.

  6. Swanson Speed Square — €12. Die-cast aluminum, one solid piece. Even if you never frame a wall, it's the best straight edge and ruler you'll own for twelve euros. Any Baumarkt carries them.

  7. Knapp Made chainmail scrubber — €15. Stainless steel rings welded together. Cleans cast iron, goes in the dishwasher, never absorbs a smell. Sponges last weeks, this lasts until you lose it. Got mine on tiktok during a price drop sale, paid like €8.

  8. Kent 20T handmade comb — €11. Hand-finished teeth, no mold seams. Cheap combs snag because the teeth have micro-burrs from injection molding. Kent files each tooth round. Some random grooming site, can't remember the name.

  9. Tweezerman Slant Tweezers — €22. Lifetime free sharpening. You mail them in, they sharpen them, mail them back. The tips actually align. Douglas, impulse buy.

  10. Wool dryer balls, 6-pack — €10. Compressed New Zealand wool. Replace dryer sheets permanently. Cuts drying time, lasts over a thousand loads. Ten euros for a thousand loads. Bio-Laden near my flat.

All ten: roughly €166. Less than one pair of boots that top every one of these threads.

Nothing here is maintenance-free. The Opinel needs oil, the razor needs blade swaps, the scrubber needs a rinse. But thirty seconds, not a weekend project.

The best time to buy the forever version is when the disposable version finally dies. Don't throw out a working thing to upgrade.

What's your boring immortal object?

Diesen Sommer deutlich nachgedunkelt + kleine Flecken im Gesicht?

Hey Leute,

Power Deals just launched in Germany, am I doing something wrong?

Power deals finally showed up in Germany and I've been trying for about a week now. Shared links with friends and in group chats but half the time it doesn't count or the deal expires before enough people join. I got one through for some dog toys which was nice, but everything else just times out. Is there a strategy I'm missing? Best time to share, does it matter if people already have the app? Any tips from other Europeans would be great since it feels like the US crowd has a head start on this.
