So I’ve been having trouble with the margin indicators in my Royal Companions. I would type and the line would end way before the right margin and the machine would get stuck where if I hit another key it would keep printing on top of the previous one.

So I took some time to investigate and found this. The margin stop in the back hits the margin indicator but not where it should. It’s getting stuck to the metal piece there and not going all the way to the screw which is where if should stop.

Is it just a case of bending/shaping to fix it? Or is there anything else I can’t see? Anyone had this happened before?

Recently I decided to work on a broken Smith Corona Corsair Deluxe I got from SGW and got it mostly working. I just sat down and typed on it and I feel like something is off. I’ve seen videos of alignment in typewriters and that looks ok in this one. I do get the impression the letters sometimes get too close together. Posting a pic so you guys can tell me if it’s really a little off or if I’m overthinking it.

What stood up to me in this was the “RF”, “AM”, “AL”, “AC” and “WI” together. And the S and O don’t look aligned al thought they’re both lower case.

After my last fiasco with SGW I decided to try one more time and ended up getting my very first Royal. I love it so far, it’s pretty nice to type on and the vibe reminds me a lot of the Smith Coronas 5A series.

Got this IBM Selectric for $10 and this 1971 Olympia SM9 for $40! Considering how crazy prices have been around here I consider them good deals!!

Both working ok (so far) but def need some dusting and cleaning. I’ve been excited to try a mechanical Olympia and the Selectric for the sharp print and cool fonts.

If anybody has spare Selectric type balls please let me know!

Just had an auction (SGW) typewriter delivered. Another FedEx fiasco apparently? Part of the case and the right carriage handle came broken. Not very worried about the case but wondering if the carriage handle could ever be fixed. Since SGW doesn’t do returns I feel basically like there’s nothing to be done even assuming FedEx damaged it. Has anyone ever got into something like this?
I’m frustrated.

So I already got my Olympia in this broken case. It looks like plastic and I can’t think of anything I could do to fix it. Anyone else ever had that issue? Any ideas on how to fix it? I’ve seen case restoration videos but they’re nothing like the one I have.

Guys I got offered this machine for 25 bucks. Is it a good deal? Is it a good machine overall? Easy repair? Any feedback appreciated!

Hey guys, just wondering if you any of you know any way to get parts for my typewriter? I recently got a Smith Corona Sterling that needed a lot of repairs but unfortunately came without the page gave indicator on the side of the machine. I’d love to get that specific part.
