Not sure what to do with 5 year old

Hello all,

So recently diagnosed with aml. Im 44. We have a 5 year old.

Really torn on what to do her. We have very little in the way of family support.

Induction chemo they are hoping 5 days + 28 outpatient in a hotel near mayo.

My question. Can I do that 28 days outpatient by myself, or should I count on my wife and kid being with me the whole time? We were gonna have my wife commute two hours a day during school, but beginning to think that's a terrible idea.

Any help?

New commenter car

I should mention, I drive mainly on a 70 mpg highway with almost no city driving. My wife fires 60 miles a day on 60 mph highway.

I’m stuck in an idea loop and not sure what to do.

I currently have a 2016 Toyota Tacoma Off-Road that I built (back when that was still allowed). It has ~82,000 miles. I don’t use it much for actual truck tasks. Most of the time it’s for commuting, and it’s uncomfortable, loud, and not great when the family is in it.

I see three options:

  1. Keep the Tacoma

Accept I’m only putting ~7–8k miles per year on it

Live with the comfort and practicality drawbacks

  1. 2026 Toyota RAV4 (Woodland or Plug-in Hybrid)

Could potentially become my wife’s car since she drives ~60 miles per day

More efficient, more practical for daily use

Better fuel economy, especially plug-in version

  1. 2026 Subaru Outback (Premium w/ Option 13, or upgrade to Touring / Touring XT)

Current offer is around $35,500, but likely negotiable

Much more comfortable for commuting and family use

XT brings more power, but fuel economy is worse

Gas prices are now more of a concern than they were recently
