Struggling to choose veil length as a petite bride (155cm) - advice on trying veils in shops?

Hi everyone!

I’ve already got my dress and recently fell in love with a veil I saw on Etsy. I’m quite petite (155 cm), so I’m struggling a bit with figuring out the right length as I’ve never actually tried a veil on before. I’d ideally love a cathedral-length veil, but I’m not sure if it might end up overwhelming me.

I think trying one on in person would really help, but I’m not sure how it works. Do bridal shops usually let you try veils on their own, or is it typically only as part of a dress appointment? And do you normally need to book in advance just for that?

I’m based near Manchester if that makes any difference.

Thanks in advance!

5’1” and trying to recomp! Would love some advice!

Hello everyone!

I’d love some advice because I feel a bit stuck/confused with my body recomp journey and I’m not sure if I’m doing things correctly.

I’m 29F, 155 cm / 5’1”, currently 55 kg / 121 lbs, and around 25% body fat.

I’ve been strength training consistently since January 2026, usually 4x/week for 30–45 minutes at home with dumbbells. I recently started Caroline Girvan’s EPIC series because I wanted a bit more structure/intensity, and I’m currently on Day 3. I also usually play badminton on weekends.

My job is office/lab based, so my activity level changes depending on the day (sometimes I’m walking around a lot, other days I’m mostly sitting). I've been reading on this sub about the importance of hitting 10k steps/day, so I am planning on incorporating that!

Food-wise, I’ve been tracking on Cronometer and currently aim for:

• 1300–1400 calories

• 90–100 g protein

I recently found out I have iron deficiency, so my GP recommended eating more and focusing on iron-rich foods alongside supplements.

My main goals are basically:

• a leaner waist

• more back definition

• lowering my body fat overall

Part of my motivation is my wedding in October, but honestly I’m also really enjoying the process and trying to build habits I can actually stick to long term.

I think the thing I’m most confused about is calories. I genuinely can’t tell if 1300–1400 is too low, okay, or not enough to support recomp while still losing fat.

So I’d really appreciate any advice on:

• whether my calories seem appropriate

• if my protein intake is enough

• whether my training/activity level sounds okay for recomp

• what calorie range you’d personally aim for in my situation

Thank you so much in advance ❤️

I’ll also attach pictures in case they help provide context!

TL;DR:

29F, 5’1” / 121 lbs / ~25% body fat. Strength training at home consistently since January and recently started Caroline Girvan EPIC. Eating 1300–1400 calories with 90–100 g protein/day and aiming for 10k steps/day. Goal is body recomp before my October wedding, but also building sustainable habits long term. Mainly unsure whether my calories are too low or too high for recomp/fat loss.
