Nepal Trip: Easy to organize tours on the go?

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I are planning a two-week trip to Nepal next November, and we're considering travelling without booking much in advance.

The idea would be to arrive in Kathmandu and use it as a base, booking day trips or 2–3 day excursions through local agencies either on the same day or just a day beforehand. We had a similar experience in Vietnam and Peru, where we could easily arrange tours and activities locally while travelling.

We'd mainly be interested in:

  • Cultural and historical sites
  • A safari in Chitwan
  • Some easy/moderate trekking routes (we enjoy hiking but aren't looking for hard/professional routes either)

Do you think this kind of spontaneous approach works well in Nepal, particularly around Kathmandu, or is it better to book some things in advance?

Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!
