Nepal Trip: Easy to organize tours on the go?

Hi everyone!

My girlfriend and I are planning a two-week trip to Nepal next November, and we're considering travelling without booking much in advance.

The idea would be to arrive in Kathmandu and use it as a base, booking day trips or 2–3 day excursions through local agencies either on the same day or just a day beforehand. We had a similar experience in Vietnam and Peru, where we could easily arrange tours and activities locally while travelling.

We'd mainly be interested in:

  • Cultural and historical sites
  • A safari in Chitwan
  • Some easy/moderate trekking routes (we enjoy hiking but aren't looking for hard/professional routes either)

Do you think this kind of spontaneous approach works well in Nepal, particularly around Kathmandu, or is it better to book some things in advance?

Any advice or experiences would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Limit......

Just for reference, yesterday after getting only about an hour and a half of sleep I managed to ride around 130–135 km on my bike early in the morning. (I started at 3 a.m) then spent 8 hours hiking at an altitude of around 3,000–3,400 m about 5.5 hours of mostly uphill hiking and stairs followed by the descent. After that I rode another 130–135 km back home.

And then

next morning woke up early and managed to catch my work.

Suru Boulder Fest 2026(Climbing related)

Hey everyone,I'm looking into attending the Suru Outdoor Fest in Ladakh this September (September 10–25, 2026) and wanted to connect with the community here.If you have been to previous editions or are planning to go this year, I’d love to hear your thoughts! Specifically:

The Experience: For those who have done it before, how is the overall vibe at the campsite? How easy is it to integrate into the group if you show up alone?

Connecting: If anyone else here is already registered or seriously planning to go, let's connect! Always great to know a few familiar faces or coordinate travel plans ahead of time.

Drop a comment or send a DM if you're heading up there or have any tips for the festival.

Thanks!

Wanting to summit Island peak, is it possible to get a guide only in chhukung?

Sorry to bother you guys, I was wondering if anybody could ask my question. I wanted to do island peak at the start of September, do you know if it’s possibile to take a guide only in chhukung? If so what permits should I get and where should I get them? Can I get them for only in Kathmandu?
I know there’s agencies organizing this from Kathmandu but I guess if only hire the guide directly there is gonna be cheaper, i know i can make the permits for hiking in lukla, but can I make the summit permit in chhukung? I don’t know if this is the right subreddit either but I will appreciate any kind of advice thaaank you

Booking a trek after arriving in Nepal

Hi! I will be in Nepal from September 6 to 28. I would like to know if it is OK to book a trek when already in Nepal. My plan is to go to the Poon Hill area for short and not so difficult treks.

I really do not want to book many things in advance, so the idea would be to see my options when in Kathmandu. Please advice. Thank you!

Any groups i can join for trek?

Hi everyonei have been wanting to go on a trek for a while now. This year i was hoping i could.

I am completely new to this and was hoping to maybe find a group where i can get more info on treks, guidance on what i need, budget, and more info.

I don't have anyone to go with so i am open to join a trekking group instead.

I joined a facebook page a while ago. They recently posted a form to fill for trekking where they will find a group according to you.

However i was hoping to get more info on budget first.

Any online groups i can be part of?
