Maybe it's dumb but I've been thinking that there's a possibility Ian knew Ali was alive. Before she pushed him off the bell tower he asks her what she was doing there which is kind of a strange reaction, that's definitely not the question most would ask if they saw someone who was presumed dead. He also had a lot of dirty secrets that he kept to himself so I wouldn't be surprised if this was one of them.

I ask because I've always been very interested in reading the books but i'm currently recovering from some eating issues myself so I don't want to get into reading them if they go super in detail. I was okay with the show but that's mainly because it was only really mentioned once and nothing graphic was shown/described.
