When does recycling efficiency apply?

So, when does the bonus apply to the recycling? Is it at the moment of creation or the moment of processing? Either could be possible. Let's say I use my offices to boost science and collect the scrap, if I then use the recycling focus to boost the efficiency does that apply to the collected scrap or once it is already created does it have a set value?

Network doing multiple actions

I know, make a line. This is just one use case. Let's say I have a line from left to right that will have a limestone station for tofu. While it's out this way, instead of going all the way back to the waiting area, can I make it go to a different waiting area? Like a second stacker out East if it has the space, or automatically look for another station out here before going back. I have copper to the right of the image that will want a station, so while the limestone is coming out this way it could go on to pick up copper after.

I was so hopeful! Vehicle ramps and digging under

So, seeing the width of the vehicle ramp fits retaining walls and two tiles of terrain designations perfectly I got hopeful. Could it be? A simple truck path with room below for a utility trench? A real bus of pipes and belts under the road, instead of the 12 designations granted by the structure.

Alas, not a chance.

What are your achievement ideas?

So this playthrough is a green one, trash was stored (Imagine a large HDPE liner under this) as was slag. This meant I had a lot of sludge and sour water when I researched docks, and steam power when I unlocked incineration. Sure they may have been a pollution penalty for the first few hundred years, but nothing compared to what the air will do later if left unchecked. The only trash on this island not burned and scrubbed now is from collapsing structures on hills that can stay there as a reminder of the stupidity. eventually the air will be clean but that is on the to do list. In fairness it is all Co2 now. I think not dumping toxic solids in the ocean is a strong candidate for an achievement, as is getting to zero pollution. No toxic slurry dumping, if it's for a set time say 1k years. Having a unity income of idk 30? (not made it to late game yet.) Produce 1.21gw without nuclear power on the island. shipping tycoon, railroad tycoon, tree hugger, tree hater, (have x vehicles of this type) no more pickups, running on H2 (hydrogen trains should be in the base game,) Clucking mad (have 10,000 chickens.)

If I sat here and thought a while I could come up with loads, but what are your top votes for achievements?

I just had my second near death experience

I'm moving from the starter spaghetti to a new clean build, the coal mine running... too much rock to be worthwhile digging up, gave me the kick I needed to make the move I've been planning for a couple of hundred years. So anyway I hooked up something wrong in maintenance 1 and the next thing I know machines are breaking down. All fine until it's a power shaft that fails, killing the feed for the next one that knocks out a mixer that stops providing acid to make copper to make electrics to make the maintenance. Thankfully I still had items in the buffers at the old setup, so turning them on and connecting the new build properly did eventually get everything working like clockwork again, but it was the closest I've ever been to total death spiral.

The lesson here folks is always, always, always have your maintenance taken care of! I didn't realise how long it takes to recover once you have this many machines.

Raised Rail stations for that seamless material transfer experience

I haven't seen many using this so I thought I'd give it a mention here. The core idea is simple, the possible combinations are complex. Why bring trains to ground level to do their thing? With this setup the trains have a single tile of height difference to get to the station. This proof of concept is a teeny tiny version for my midgame necessity to get things done - storages are offsite, but the option to have them integrated is viable.

Edit: If you use a longer train you'll need longer tracks out - as you can see this train was blocking the track for the station next to it.

Pro tip: How to mine efficiently

For any less experienced captains out there, if you want to mine ore effectively it's best to take off any stone and soil above before mining into mountains - then you use the ore sorter way less often if you are working at this scale, and that can matter when moving a mountain. even skimming off soil first can save time and using the sorter too much. The new terrain tool makes planning this easier than ever. I have two teams on the Iron mine here - the ones on the lower left platform are mining for the smelters - the ones on the top are mining for ocean fill. I have another crew that removes dirt for the gas contract in places I plan to landscape before the rock crew arrives. The ore diggers are the last in but help out in clearing the future ore mining locations when storages are full.

How many rock will you move to get to that last ore? IDC it's getting buried - there are richer seams elsewhere. Just waiting on mega vehicles to build and this hill will be moved in no time.

Does research efficiency only seed up the research or does it use less?

I was thinking this would save me some materials but now I'm starting to wonder if it just speeds up the process... If that's all it does it's kind of pointless save for maybe getting in an extra half a lab of research without the cost of people/power.

Can I mark what box a quicktrade comes out from?

I'm tired of the items always being taken from the wrong box when I do a quick trade - is there any way around this?

My cargo ship refuses to change fuel type

https://preview.redd.it/5t4oc77ms60h1.png?width=1286&format=png&auto=webp&s=d3f494578057766d2f17d6bb026ad07d89fc5f12

Don't tell me it needs to be in an empty dock! it's just stuck on this and I have the materials.

Edit: In testing removing the modules from the dock does change the fuel type. This is BS IMO. Had I known that before I would have upgraded when switching to a bigger dock.

Edit 2: IDK What happened yesterday but it seems to work fine today somehow.

Compost amount per farm

IDK how but I measured the area for farms wrong so it's bigger than I need - I wanted to see just how much compost it takes per farm. This area took 4461 compost measured from a storage. All is not lost - we have maths!

Each large grid is about 300 compost as a general rule of thumb

Farms occupy 176 tiles.

Each tile takes ~18 compost

If my maths is mathing right it takes ~3270 compost per farm to use 1 depth of compost. I'm presuming we only need one depth.

The second farm had some area covered in fertile soil

The third and final farm had normal soil only under - the base replenish rates scale with the number of fertile tiles.

So is this a permanent boost or will it slowly be affected by depletion?

Edit: It was just balancing - turns out they end up equal. What is the point of making fertile soil?
