Is there anyone here who can insert a scleral lens without holding their upper eyelid?

have a 16.5 mm scleral lens. I’ve been trying to put it in for a week, and I’ve only managed to get it in once. Even when I try to hold my upper eyelid by the eyelashes, I can’t get my upper eyelid to open upward. Would my chances of insert the lens increase if I tried putting it in without holding my upper eyelid? I recorded myself while holding both of my lids and whatever i do my lids is barely wide enough to insert the lens and i have extreme level of flinching, moving my head back.

using scleral lens after corneal transplant

I don't have keratoconus but i had to get corneal transplant because of a disease called dystrophy and after surgery unfortunately i have very high astigmatism. Now i have scleral lens and vision is great but while i was removing it i panicked and blinked plus moved my head back. I saw my eye was a little bit red because of the suction caused by lens, redness was gone after 10 minute But My vision was extra blurry than it normally should be. 6 hours passed but still nothing changed. I am scared to damage my cornea while trying to insert or remove. I spend 6 hours and countless attempts to insert them in. Removing was easy but like i said i panicked.

For those who had a corneal transplant and using a scleral lens, what should i be careful with while inserting or removing? What extra cautions are you taking?

Hello. I would appreciate it if people who have undergone DALK surgery or those with knowledge in this field (corneal transplant) could read this.

Let me first ask my main question, and then I’ll tell my story: After undergoing DALK surgery and having all your sutures removed, what level of astigmatism did you end up with?

I have a genetic condition called dystrophy in both of my eyes. Because of this, I had DALK surgery on my right eye at the age of 21. I was told that I need to wait at least one year before having surgery on my left eye.

Seven months after my DALK surgery, my doctor removed sutures for the first time. In that first session, a total of 16 sutures were removed. He referred to them as something like “permanent sutures,” but I don’t remember the exact term. After that first removal, there were 8 sutures left in my eye. One week later, I went for a follow-up visit, and on that day, all of the remaining sutures were removed. In short, all of my sutures were removed in the 7th month after my surgery.

I had read online about patients who still had sutures even after 12 months, so I mentioned this to my doctor and asked whether my sutures had been removed a bit early. He told me, “I’m adjusting your astigmatism. Sutures can usually be removed after about 5 months, so no, yours were not removed early.” Honestly, I don’t fully trust my doctor, but what do you think—were my sutures removed too early?

One month later, I went for another check-up and learned that my astigmatism was between 8.5 and 9.5 diopters. Glasses are not sufficient, so my doctor recommended rigid contact lenses. At that point, my hopes were really crushed because I was not expecting such a high level of astigmatism.

To be honest, I am not satisfied at all with my doctor’s behavior and communication. Despite going to many follow-up visits, my doctor never performed corneal topography or used any specialized device to properly evaluate my eye. The only thing that was done was the standard vision test that everyone takes. After that, the doctor would examine my eye with a microscope and a light, and then repeatedly try to make me read letters using different numbered glasses on the testing device.

So yeah, im young and all of these made me exhausted, not being able to see without glasses. You guys can be honest and tell me about my astigmatism if its bad from the other patients or is it normal level of astigmatism. Thats all i wanna know.
