When will assessments adapt to AI?

Right now, many assessments have some tagline saying that AI is not permitted in this assignment, and yet no-one follows this. I'd estimate the number of students that have followed the AI policy to be at least lower than 30%.

AI has been widely used for four years and UWA still adopts a please-dont-use-it policy and hands the same take home assignment they would have before all of this. I know for a fact that most peoples experience with assignments is just uploading the task sheet ChatGPT, removing the em dashes from the result and then submitting for an easy 80%. Is this really what our tax dollars and four years of our life is for?

To be clear, I'm pro AI. If much of this work can be done by AI better than humans (writing reports especially) end employers will expect us to use AI to do this work too, why are we wasting time with this facade of pretending anyone's doing the work? Assignments need to adapt.

This all just feels like busy work and a large waste of our time.
