American Corruption

The corruption this season has been the worst I’ve seen in any show. The whole thing feels more rigged than ever. The judges were real eager to pick on certain contestants and praise others regardless of how the performance went. It feels like they all have the producers in their ears at all times or something. Like there were so many performances I was really impressed with that got torn to shreds by the judges as well as mediocre to not-so-great performances that were praised as musical nirvana. They’re just so clearly unified in trying to influence the votes in a certain direction.

The voting system is so horribly flawed, and I’m not sure exactly what the issue is but the distribution has been so slanted from the get. Like I could’ve told you Hannah was gonna win when she got 40% of ALL votes in top 9. I have nothing against Hannah and I think she is super talented but that number is an insane injustice to all the other talent in that group. Plus the whole voting in eastern time exclusively thing feels intentional, like there should be a different way to do that so everyone can vote AFTER they’ve seen the show. I know I’m getting real conspiratorial here but it makes some sense to me that Idol would wanna keep places like California from voting on Country/Church Idol.

Also I know everyone has their schticks but the fact that it’s so necessary to have some sob story to be able to compete at all is ridiculous. Not to mention the intense audition screening has made the first few episodes so much less interesting.

My last big complaint is how Idol has chosen to shove Disney and other sh*t down the audiences throats at every opportunity. I find it remarkably infuriating. Like I genuinely wonder how much of the shows runtime has been consumed by BS Disney ads, both heavy handed and a little more subliminal (but mostly heavy handed lol).

So between all of that and Lionel referring to the audience as the “congregation” 20 times an episode, I’m not quite sure if I’ll even tune in next year. Which seriously makes me sad because I grew up watching this show and I love it a lot.

I hope they can turn it around somehow.
