You guys. Look what I wrote 17 years ago. Did someone sing Blues Traveler on the finale or am I that random?

First Time Viewer

Other than seeing a few episodes here and there growing up i never watched American Idol. I knew some artists got famous from winning (Adam Lambert, Carrie Underwood) but otherwise I didn’t know much about the show.

In reading some reddit posts I’ve learned the voting process is newer and now contestants appear to move forward based on popularity rather than talent alone. Which makes me understand why each contestant needed to have some kind of sad sob story or huge issue to overcome in life before auditioning.

Basically just came to this sub to say the voting was wack and that some of the contestants that made it as far as they did definitely shouldn’t have. Chris? No way. Hannah was good but to win the whole thing wtf. Jordan and Daniel both have incredible voices and range they were fantastic. Sure, if you aren’t into gospel they might not be your cup of tea, but their talent was phenomenal. I’m so bummed Jordan didn’t win. I felt he was the most consistently amazing contestant week after week and the main critique he got was stage presence which he truly worked on and fixed by these last few performances.

Rae was cut way too soon. I wasn’t crazy about Brooks, his voice was unique but he wasn’t what I’d call a performer like Julian was for example. I also really loved that one rock centric girl whose dad was a performer - she had some great pipes and should have made it further. I suspect she and some of the other girls that i thought were great were not popular enough with the audience because they weren’t a size 2.

Also this finale episode was awful, i fast forwarded. Did any of the artists rehearse ahead of time? My husband actually said “which contestant was that? They sounded awful, no way they can win” and i had to tell him it was just legit artists plus previous contestants that came in for a halftime show lol.

WTF is going on with Joshua Ledet?

Look at his Instagram stories. He’s talking about Jessica Sanchez… and Chris brown… hacking his account? I’m so confused. He’s clearly VERY unwell. Someone help this man… or at least take away his phone

I never thought I would say this . . .

But I think it is time to replace Carrie Underwood. I think she is an excellent judge until the producers won’t allow constructive criticism. Then all of the judges suck.

It’s Carrie’s fault that Hollywood Week was not in California. It is Carrie’s fault that there was a gospel week or whatever it was called. And I blame her for attracting all the over-the-top gospel singers to the show. I don’t believe there should be all of this God talk. It’s not about religion!

Between Carrie and the producers American Idol has turned into a joke. And this is coming from a diehard fan of the show!

American Corruption

The corruption this season has been the worst I’ve seen in any show. The whole thing feels more rigged than ever. The judges were real eager to pick on certain contestants and praise others regardless of how the performance went. It feels like they all have the producers in their ears at all times or something. Like there were so many performances I was really impressed with that got torn to shreds by the judges as well as mediocre to not-so-great performances that were praised as musical nirvana. They’re just so clearly unified in trying to influence the votes in a certain direction.

The voting system is so horribly flawed, and I’m not sure exactly what the issue is but the distribution has been so slanted from the get. Like I could’ve told you Hannah was gonna win when she got 40% of ALL votes in top 9. I have nothing against Hannah and I think she is super talented but that number is an insane injustice to all the other talent in that group. Plus the whole voting in eastern time exclusively thing feels intentional, like there should be a different way to do that so everyone can vote AFTER they’ve seen the show. I know I’m getting real conspiratorial here but it makes some sense to me that Idol would wanna keep places like California from voting on Country/Church Idol.

Also I know everyone has their schticks but the fact that it’s so necessary to have some sob story to be able to compete at all is ridiculous. Not to mention the intense audition screening has made the first few episodes so much less interesting.

My last big complaint is how Idol has chosen to shove Disney and other sh*t down the audiences throats at every opportunity. I find it remarkably infuriating. Like I genuinely wonder how much of the shows runtime has been consumed by BS Disney ads, both heavy handed and a little more subliminal (but mostly heavy handed lol).

So between all of that and Lionel referring to the audience as the “congregation” 20 times an episode, I’m not quite sure if I’ll even tune in next year. Which seriously makes me sad because I grew up watching this show and I love it a lot.

I hope they can turn it around somehow.

Hannah Harper Becomes First Female Country Winner Since Carrie Underwood

I forgot that it’s been so long since a female country singer won a season!! Congrats again to Hannah!! ✨✨

My thoughts on Hannah Harper

So I see a lot of posts upset that Hannah won but hear me out. I don't think the biggest belter has to win Idol every time. I agree that Hannah doesn't have a huge range, however, I think she's charming, has a nice tone, and is a good singer songwriter. Yes, many people are hating because she won partly due to going viral but the song itself is decently written and emotional but people got mad because they took it to be a sob story or a pity party. I actually started following Hannah on TikTok before Idol and I really enjoyed her acoustic voice in her home. She felt much more natural and sang beautifully in key. On Idol her voice was definitely not the best it broke kind of awkwardly in a few songs. However, I think she has a strong command of artistry. Idk I just feel like people complain that the belters always win and then when a non belter wins it's "she doesn't have a good voice!"

Why hannah won

Other than the huge fanbase i do feet that the record label would have an easier understanding on how to market her .

I do wish Hannah had taken more risks if we look at country girls from the past like carrie underwood kellie pickler, skylar laine , kree harrison and janelle arthur they have shown how versatlie they are and how they can do multiple genres

Hannah could have benefitted more by stepping out of her comfort zone

Unpopular Opinion: Hannah is the worst winner in Idol history!

I can't believe she actually won. She sounded like a karaoke singer at an off-strip bar in Nashville.
