Postpartum at 2.5 months and need to donate

Hi,

I (39 F) am considering donating to my spouse (40 M). His egfr is fluctuating between 9-12, he is yet to start dialysis, no symptoms other than fatigue. I am not a match for him - my blood group is A+, his is O+. Will do a paired exchange.

I would have started my evaluation right away but the doctor at UC Davis said I need to consider how long I want to breastfeed and think this through. I read on the internet that the wait time is at least a year after you have a c-section. I had gestational diabetes during my pregnancy but controlled it through diet. Before pregnancy, if I exercised, my hba1c was within normal limits (it would be slightly prediabetic (around 5.7) if I didn’t eat right or exercise. I don’t have any other health issues, BMI is normal. We were not expecting the egfr to go down this early. Had I not been postpartum, would have tried preemptive transplant or a few months of dialysis before transplant.

No other family members can donate (father has diabetes and mom passed away, he is a single child). Extended family members (relatives) haven’t volunteered and this is something you can’t ask anyone.

Has anyone donated within 1 year of postpartum? Any advice is appreciated.

Microsite

Hi, I have registered at UC Davis for my kidney transplant. As the waiting list is long (I am O+, so it’s even longer for me) and I don’t have a live donor yet, I want to create a microsite with all my details to help me find a donor. My transplant coordinator told me UC Davis doesn’t have that kind of membership with National Kidney Registry to allow me to create a microsite. How do I create a microsite?

Dialysis at 40

Hi, 40M with ESRD - current EGFR is 9. Came down from 19 to 9 in just 7+ months. Biopsy done in Feb 2024 - IgA with secondary FSGS. EGFR was 31 in July 2023 when I was diagnosed. Despite medications, diet restrictions, the disease progression did not slow down. No symptoms so far other than foamy urine and fatigue. Will soon start with peritoneal dialysis. I have 2 kids - 7 year old and 3 month old. Super worried!

My wife is very much willing to donate a kidney but she had a c-section 3 months back. No other living donor at this point. I am in the US on L1 visa with visa expiring in Nov 2029. Contemplating if I should move back to India as there we have a better support system but medical care is better in the US. I have good health insurance coverage and my wife works as well on L2 visa. Would really appreciate any advice or kind words.
