NAS storage issues.

Has anyone else had issues with Aqara NAS storage suddenly stopping working?

I had NAS recording working previously with my Synology, but it has stopped and I can no longer reconnect the cameras.

The really weird part is that Aqara Home seems to be showing a completely stale/cached NAS share list rather than actually querying the NAS.

A few things I've found:

  • I created a brand-new SMB share on my Synology, but Aqara doesn't show it. It only shows an old directory listing that no longer matches what's actually on the NAS.
  • I then tried selecting my Windows PC instead of the Synology. The PC has its own SMB shares, but Aqara still displayed the old Synology share listing.
  • I checked the Synology logs while doing this and there isn't even an SMB authentication attempt from the Aqara cams.
  • I've removed all NAS associations from Aqara.
  • I've completely uninstalled/reinstalled Aqara Home.
  • I even tried with a brand-new Aqara camera, and it still shows the exact same stale NAS information.

So this doesn't seem to be a Synology permissions/password/SMB issue. It looks like Aqara is somehow retaining or retrieving an old NAS/share listing and isn't actually querying the server during setup.

Has anyone else seen this? Or found a way to clear whatever NAS state Aqara is retaining?

I've raised a support ticket - but I'm still waiting for a reply.

G5 Pro WiFi sensor issues?

I've been trialing the G5 Pro WiFi & PoE cameras.

The WiFi version appears to suffer from fairly extreme sensor bloom, resulting complete picture washout and these vertical black lines appear over any bright light source.

This picture is a fairly extreme example, being a bright morning sky, however it will do this for any sufficiently bright light source, such as an indoor light, outdoor street lamp, car headlights, open window, etc.

The PoE version does not appear to do this.

So my question is - is this camera faulty, or is this just normal for the WiFi version of the G5 Pro?

For reference, I have tested this cam in multiple locations and verified WiFi signal strength is good. The issue is captured in local recordings too, so unlikely to be caused by WiFi itself.

How are you managing Aqara Guard Modes & Apple HomeKit notifications together?

I’m currently setting up my Aqara system alongside Apple HomeKit and trying to figure out the best way to handle Guard Modes and notifications across both apps.

Coming from an Arlo setup, Aqara’s Guard Modes (Away, Home, Night) make a lot of sense, but the native Aqara automation logic for switching modes feels a bit basic. I’m leaning on HomeKit automations to switch between the guard modes, but I’ve hit a few walls with how notifications interact between the two systems:

1. Time-based / night-time notifications while home: I want to receive alerts (e.g., motion or person detection at the front door) when I’m at home, but only during night hours. I haven’t found an intuitive way in either app to cleanly restrict camera/sensor alert schedules to a specific night window without affecting daytime triggers.

2. Triggers vs. detection alerts: Aqara seems to treat Guard Mode triggers as entirely separate from standard detection alerts (like "Person detected at front door"). How do most people configure their guard modes and detection / notification rules in a way that doesn't result in too much noise?

3. Duplicate Alerts: When an Aqara Guard Mode does trigger, HomeKit sends its own system notification on top of Aqara’s. Is there a clean way to suppress or manage HomeKit’s default alert when an Aqara guard state is tripped, short of turning off HomeKit notifications entirely for that hub/accessory?

In summary - How do you structure guard modes and notifications for both systems?

Do you use both at the same time, or only configure all notifications from a single system? If so, which one?

Thanks!

Do I have a drainage problem? (Read text).

The first (AI generated) image shows the basic construction of our house.

As you can see, part of the house is built on a concrete slab, the other parts is raised on steel piers. There is a retaining wall bridging the two sections. The main waste water pipe for the house runs straight through this wall and continues downhill towards the sewer.

During heavy or periods of prolonged rainfall we have observed water traveling under the slab and existing through the breach in the retaining wall that was made for the waste water piping. There is also quite a bit of efflorescence along the full length of this wall, and not just around the pipe. (See second image).

There does not appear to be any overland flow, or pooling water uphill of the house, I believe this is just being caused by water soaking into the ground and moving along the clay layer, eventually existing through this breach in the wall.

So my question to the experts - is this a problem? The water exiting under the raised part of the house is eroding the soil away and starting to cause channels to be cut into the ground. I can easily fix this by capturing it and diverting it away ... but is the water moving under the slab a problem?
