Front Street Animal Shelter currently has many cats and kittens waiting for loving homes, and a special adoption promotion is available throughout July.

🐱 FREE adoptions for altered cats and kittens from July 5–12. Simply show the shelter's promotional email.

Can't adopt this week? Reduced adoption fees continue through the end of July:
• Kittens: $75
• Adult cats: $50

Every adopted cat or kitten goes home microchipped, vaccinated, and spayed or neutered.

This promotion includes cats and kittens at the shelter, in foster care, and at off-site adoption locations at Petco on Arden Way and PetSmart on Watt Avenue.

Hey r/Sacramento 💜

Kitten season is here, and our own Front Street Animal Shelter is expecting over 3,000 kittens this year—many of them orphaned, sick, or too young to survive on their own. These tiny ones urgently need foster homes so they can grow strong enough for adoption.

Front Street is looking for kind, animal-loving people in Sacramento to help with kittens—tiny bottle babies, playful self-feeders, and moms with litters. You don’t need experience to start, just a bit of time and a safe space in your home.

When you sign up, the team will walk you through everything you need to know and provide all the supplies and support so you’re never doing it alone. You can choose what type of kittens you’re comfortable with and what fits your schedule.

  • “Pubs, Clubs, and Bars” training – quarterly session with info from Code Compliance, Sac PD, and Sac Fire on safety and best practices for nightlife venues.
  • Safety trainings – de-escalation, active shooter response, bleeding control, and overdose/Narcan response.
  • Violence prevention & awareness – in partnership with WEAVE, focused on recognizing and responding to signs of domestic and sexual violence.

Our shelter is completely out of space - to save lives all adult dogs will be free to adopt now through June 21st! Every day, more dogs arrive as strays while many of our amazing dogs continue waiting day after day for families.

Whether you're looking for a hiking buddy, couch companion, running partner, or family dog, we have dogs of all ages, breeds, and personalities waiting to meet you. Every dog goes home spayed or neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. Adult dogs are 6 months and older.

Help Fix Our Community: Support Local Animal Shelters

I'm sharing today's list of sick kittens at Front Street who urgently need foster homes. Many need medication, a quiet place to recover, and a little extra care to get healthy and ready for adoption.

The reality is that shelters are taking in more animals than our community can support. This isn't because people don't care—it's because too many animals are being born without enough homes, resources, or support systems in place.

One of the most effective ways to reduce suffering is spaying and neutering pets. I know that isn't always simple. It takes time, money, transportation, and planning. Please take care of yourself first and help where you can.

Even small actions matter:

• Check found pets for a microchip.
• Post found animals in local lost-and-found groups.
• Consider fostering if you have the time and space.
• Share information about low-cost spay/neuter services.
• Adopt, volunteer, donate, or simply help spread the word.

My cat Juliet is here today because someone gave a vulnerable kitten a chance. These kittens need that same opportunity.

• A736069 — ~5-week-old kitten needing URI treatment
• A735913 — ~5-week-old kitten needing to gain weight
• A735677 — ~6-week-old kitten, stable after being reported hit by a car; needs monitoring, eye medication, pain medication, and a recheck in two weeks
• A735250 — Litter of 2, 8 weeks old, recovered from URI and need to gain weight
• A735933 — ~7-week-old kitten undergoing URI treatment
• A735395 — ~9-week-old kitten undergoing URI treatment

Hello Wonderful Cat Fosters,

I want to take a moment to recognize the time, care and dedication you continue to give to our kittens. Your efforts truly make this lifesaving work possible, thank you so much!

As of today, Wednesday April 29th, we currently have 277 kittens in foster homes!

Here is a quick update on our current foster capacity:

  • ONLY 1 foster home is available to take incoming bottle babies (age 1 day – 4 weeks)
    • Bottle babies are our most vulnerable age group, they require feeding every few hours during the day but they can go longer at night!
  • 20 foster homes ready for weaning kittens (4 – 6 weeks old)
  •  15 foster homes ready for feeder/grower’s kittens (6–8 weeks old )

We are urgently seeking more bottle baby fosters. We receive litters of neonatal kittens daily. These kittens are too young to stay at the shelter overnight and require same day foster placement.  We are actively transferring kittens to our rescue partners in the absence of available foster homes, however, as the season continues rescue availability also becomes scares as their available foster homes are filled.

If you have ever thought about fostering bottle babies, this is your call to action! When you start your bottle baby journey, you will be paired with an experience mentor to guide you every step of the way. Your first litter of bottle babies may seem intimidating, but after just a week or two they will sleeping longer, growing stronger, and quickly move into the weaning stage.

Thank you again for your dedication and support, it means everything to these kittens and to all of us at Front Street Animal Shelter!
