First trip to Peru!
Just got back from 10 days in Peru and I'm already wanting to go back. We started in Cusco and spent two days just walking around the city. The cobblestone streets and the markets are something else. San Pedro Market was our favorite spot, fresh fruit smoothies for like $1.50 and the ladies there were so nice even though my Spanish is basically non-existent.
Then we did the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. Four days of hiking, brutal on day two but absolutely worth it. Our guide spoke decent English but the porters didn't, and I wish I had brought something to help me thank them properly. One of the porters told our guide he wanted to ask me about my hiking boots and the guide had to translate. Felt bad I couldn't just chat with him directly.
Now I'm planning a trip to Vietnam and Cambodia for next year but the language thing is stressing me out way more. I've been looking at the Timekettle W4 translation earbuds. Has anyone used them in Southeast Asia? My main worry is whether they handle tonal languages like Vietnamese okay.
Also if anyone is thinking about Peru, go now. The crowds at Machu Picchu weren't bad in shoulder season.
