How to price pieces under 1 minute if you agreed on a fee per minute of finished music?
Hey fellow composers. I'm currently working on my first paid video game job. I have a portfolio with games released on Itch.io and Steam. I did a few Game Jams and graduation projects from students. But now is the first "real" job as money is involved.
We agreed on a price per minute of finished music. This includes the whole package (composition, production, mixing, mastering and revision). Final delivery is a loop able wave file.
We finished 2x 60 seconds tracks and all worked fine. Now the client asks for 2x 30 second pieces. I assume he wants to have 2 separate pieces of music for the price of 1 minute.
I'm not sure how to approach and bill this because 2 separate pieces of music of 30 seconds are not the half amount of work as it involves all steps of creating a new project, finding ideas, doing revisions for each of the 30 seconds etc.
I could ask for the full minute price, but that feels a little unfair, as this means that there is no chance to order short cues and loops under 1 minute from me without any disadvantages.
Do you ask for a fixed price, so anything under 1 minute is still at least for example 80% of the minute price instead of 50%?
How do you handle these situations? Thanks!
