[Question] What's made you happy (besides money)?

Given all the discussions about stress and sadness lately, seeing such a beautiful sunny day makes me curious.

Besides money, what brought you joy or happiness recently?

[Question] Where are we buying furniture & household items that last? IKEA or somewhere more fancy?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in the process of buying a house, but I am starting from absolute zero. I have no furniture, no pots, and literally not a single fork to my name.

I finally have a solid income, so I want to avoid the cheap uni accommodation vibe and actually buy decent quality stuff that can last. But furnishing an entire house from scratch all at once feels incredibly overwhelming when you don't know where's best to go.

Is it worth doing a massive IKEA run just to get the basics handled immediately, or should I jump straight to mid/higher tier brands?

If you’ve ever had to kit out a fully functioning home from nothing, how did you prioritise it? Did you buy cheap kitchenware for now and drop real cash on the couch/mattress, or just buy nice everything from Day 1?

Would love your favourite brand recs and any tips on how to tackle this!

Note: Based in London

Cheers

[Question] Does anyone have AC in their homes if so is it worth it?

Every summer my house turns into a literal oven, but I always procrastinate on getting AC until the heatwave passes.

I’m thinking of biting the bullet, but before I start getting expensive installation quotes, I’d love some honest feedback from people who already have it.

Is a proper wall mounted system actually a game changer compared to a noisy portable unit, or does the upfront costs and spiked energy bills make you regret the investment? And are there any preferences when it comes to brands?

[Question] Andy Burnham and the proposed property tax?

Just reading up on Andy Burnham’s proposed property tax from Fairer share.

Apparently, he wants to completely axe Council Tax (which let's face it, is still regressive and based on ancient 1991 valuations) and Stamp Duty. The replacement would be a flat annual property tax at roughly 0.5% of your home's actual value.

The group behind the idea says it would make about 75% of UK homeowners better off, but sadly that'd be for everyone outside of London and the South East.

To me it feels a bit odd to do this, as there's so many open questions i.e. how will they value your home? What happens if you have just paid stamp duty do you get relief? What if you're renovating and not able to live in the house?

What do you guys think and is it even worth worrying about as I'm looking to buy with a pretty heavy stamp duty bill.

[Ed Aarons] Arsenal are expected to make an approach to sign Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa after making the England forward their primary transfer target this summer. The 23-year-old could cost up to £100m and are also likely to make an approach to sign Ayyoub Bouaddi from Lille at £70m

[Fabrizio Romano] “Lille know top clubs are going to come for Ayyoub Bouaddi. He’s been approached by PSG, they love him. There was direct contact with Arsenal & Liverpool, both clubs had meetings with the agents of the player. It’s going to be the summer of midfielders!”

So I’ve reached the point where my RSU holdings are becoming a significant portion of my net worth.

Up until now, I’ve mostly just let them sit there, selling the bare minimum to utilise the capital gains allowance, but I’m conscious of the concentration risk and want to be more intentional with them. Note, I already max out my stocks and shares ISA but I've not bought a house yet.

For those of you with significant RSU packages, how are you managing them across different time horizons?
