Does anyone else struggle to find a good crossover between premium casual wear and sportswear?

Hi all, long time lurker but never posted before!

I've found my wardrobe has changed quite a bit over the last few years, going from branded logo embellished items to more understated 'capsule' type clothing.

Most days I want clothes that I can wear to the gym, grab a coffee afterwards, travel in, work from home or even throw on for a casual lunch without feeling like I'm wearing obvious sportswear.

I like performance fabrics for the comfort, stretch and easy care, but I don't really want big logos, loud colours or clothing that screams "gym kit."

At the same time, a lot of the premium casual brands I like don't really have the technical features that make them comfortable for everyday movement.

Has anyone else found themselves looking for pieces in that middle ground?

If so, what brands have come closest? Do they tick the boxes I'm describing?

UK staycation recommendations

Hey all, my partner and I need to recharge, and we’ve been looking for a nice hotel in the UK. We only have an extended weekend, so ideally we’re looking for somewhere that’s up to 2.5 hours drive from London. We want to go to the gym, spa, some country walks and check out some pubs.

Are there any hotels you stayed at that you’d love to go back to again?

Is the Simba Hybrid Ultra Mattress worth it? Looking for recommendations

Hi all,

I’ve been thinking about investing in a new mattress, as we spend roughly a third of our lives asleep. I’ve been looking at a few options and came across the Simba Hybrid Ultra Mattress.

Has anyone had any experience with it, or could you recommend any other mattresses worth considering?

My main goals are better sleep quality and helping to reduce the risk of back or neck pain, especially as I’m 23 and want to look after my posture long term.

Thanks in advance for your time and any suggestions!

Lounge access for frequent travelers, what option gives you the best value?

I've been trying to spend a bit more on things that actually make life easier instead of always going for the cheapest option. Travel is the one thing I'm still on the fence about.

I travel enough for work and holidays that airports are becoming a regular part of life. By the time I've bought a coffee, something to eat, and found somewhere half decent to sit or get a bit of work done, I've usually spent more than I planned anyway.

I'm not bothered about luxury. I'd just like somewhere quieter, decent WiFi, and not having to fight for a seat or a plug socket.

For those who travel regularly, what have you found works best? Is lounge access something you've actually found worthwhile over time, or do you just stick with the terminal?

Culinary experiences?

Looking to treat my partner on his birthday. He is a huge foodie and loves to cook. I’d love to surprise him with a cooking course/ experience. He is big on doing things together, so I will need to join. Looking to spend up to £400 total. Have already got a dinner booked at Savoy Grill with drinks at a bar.

Would love recommendations on experiences/ courses people have tried.

Pasta making just won’t cut it.

Best new build complex in London for remote workers?

Hi Henry’s,

Me and my gf (mid 20-late 20s) are both remote workers in tech, we have an office in central but are not required to go in, and we both switched to this recently. We are currently renting in Elephant Park as :it does check most of the boxes we had

  1. Easy office commute (no longer required)
  2. M&S nearby
  3. Easy commute to central (we like exploring restaurants)
  4. relatively easy commute to LHR/Gatwick

However now that #1 is off the table I’m rethinking if living so central is worth the £££ , we currently spend 3k including bills on a 1 bedroom (Built to rent complex)

Downsides are:

  1. only 1 bedroom, an office room would be nice as we both work remote
  2. no luxury gym nearby ( I’m currently a member at Third space near my office, and it’s my only hobby)

Are there any other areas that would allow to tick more boxes?

How to deal with the stress that comes with HE jobs

Bit of a different post, how do you maintain a healthy WLB? (Granted you even have one).

Whats that one thing that you can do that makes you switch off away from everything- could be watching a movie, going for a jog etc.

Curious to hear others here deal with stress/ a stressful job consuming most their day.

Nearby hotel recs / general Lego land tips pls?

Had hoped to dodge this bullet 😩 have searched the sub for any posts and found nothing sadly.

Would love any recommendations for a nice hotel near-ish (within a 20 minute drive is ideal!) please, and any tips on how to make the day better.

I’ve heard they really pack it to capacity - and foolishly we’re likely to encounter peak as we’d like to go a weekend in July or over the summer hols. I don’t want to stay in their hotel as I’m v funny about hygiene and you can’t convince me they’re truly cleaning kid bogeys off of the LEGO models in those rooms. And I suspect we’d get a much nicer hotel for the same price on the outside? We’ll be 3 x adults (MIL - not in a thruple) and 1 x LO. Walking isn’t an issue for any of us, I’m not so bothered by queues, but am v concerned about food - is there anywhere ok or are you better off taking a picnic of nice bits in?

Thanks in advance 🙏🙏

Uni Graduation gifts for son and daughter

Both my son and daughter are graduating uni shortly and I want to get them a gift that they will have to remember the occasion. For my daughter I can easily think of gifts - mostly jewelry items - but my son it’s harder. He is very sporty and like experiences. Doesn’t wear a watch (but does borrow his dad’s on some occasions !! ).

I would love to hear gift you got for your graduation and any ideas to inspire me. 1-2k budget

Housekeepers that aren't strictly cleaners?

First world problems I know but with both of us being high earners, travelling different days to London etc. we are simply falling behind on the basics like doing the washing up, washing clothes, tidying, changing the bedsheets that kind of stuff. We have a weekly cleaner who does a fantastic job, but what I think we need is someone to come in daily and keep the household running.

When I try to Google this, I just get loads of links to cleaners. I have a cleaner, she's great, I wouldn't want to get rid of her, but she doesn't have the capacity to do what I'm asking.

Does such a service exist? What should I be searching for?

Where would one sell a Birkin privately?

Hypothetically if I lived in London and had a birkin, where might i be able to sell it privately? There are plenty of designer bag re-seller shops locally so that’s obviously an option, but if I wanted to cut out the middle-man where might I be able to find a buyer?

Is Priority Pass worth it if you only fly 3 or 4 times a year?

I was looking over my travel spending from the past year and realised most of my trips start from usually Heathrow or Manchester with maybe 1 or 2 longer holidays mixed in. Delays seem to be happening more often than they used to so the idea of having somewhere quieter to sit before a flight has started sounding a lot more appealing. At the same time I cant tell if lounge access is one of those things that is genuinely useful or something that feels great the first couple of times and then barely gets used. For anyone who flies a few times a year rather than every month, where did the value end up coming from was it the food, somewhere to work, escaping a packed terminal or did you eventually decide it wasnt worth keeping?

I would pay for someone to handle all my insurance renewals

Does any insurance broker do this for everything? This month I have had to sort house (ridiculously complex due to old house) car and pets. As they all go up I have had to call on each one and negotiate and it is really challenging to fit in the day, so I end up doing it later than is optimal. Would an insurance broker cover all of these or do I need a PA?

I tried one insurance broker for the house and after spending forever on the phone with them, they just came back and told me to go with the company I was already with.

Professional Deep Clean Needed

Hi everyone,

My partner and I are, hopefully this or next week, signing the contracts for a our new house.

First thing is getting a proper deep clean done. Does anyone have recommendations on a company they have used and were happy with? The house is in Leytonstone if that makes a difference. Also wouldn't mind if they could include garden clean up but don't have to.

Thank you!

[Question] Does anyone have AC in their homes if so is it worth it?

Every summer my house turns into a literal oven, but I always procrastinate on getting AC until the heatwave passes.

I’m thinking of biting the bullet, but before I start getting expensive installation quotes, I’d love some honest feedback from people who already have it.

Is a proper wall mounted system actually a game changer compared to a noisy portable unit, or does the upfront costs and spiked energy bills make you regret the investment? And are there any preferences when it comes to brands?

[Question] Where are we buying furniture & household items that last? IKEA or somewhere more fancy?

Hey everyone,

I’m currently in the process of buying a house, but I am starting from absolute zero. I have no furniture, no pots, and literally not a single fork to my name.

I finally have a solid income, so I want to avoid the cheap uni accommodation vibe and actually buy decent quality stuff that can last. But furnishing an entire house from scratch all at once feels incredibly overwhelming when you don't know where's best to go.

Is it worth doing a massive IKEA run just to get the basics handled immediately, or should I jump straight to mid/higher tier brands?

If you’ve ever had to kit out a fully functioning home from nothing, how did you prioritise it? Did you buy cheap kitchenware for now and drop real cash on the couch/mattress, or just buy nice everything from Day 1?

Would love your favourite brand recs and any tips on how to tackle this!

Note: Based in London

Cheers

For those who went for your dream car, any regrets?

For a bit of background, I'm a big petrolhead and there are plenty of cars I'd love to own and drive. Nothing particularly exotic—my tastes lean more towards classic cars than supercars.

My problem is that I've always been very frugal. It's served me well financially, and now my wife and I are in our mid-30s with a net worth of around £850k (excluding our home, which is worth roughly £750k with about £200k remaining on the mortgage). My current total compensation is around £250k a year.

Despite that, I keep going round in circles trying to justify buying a car purely for enjoyment rather than necessity. I guess I'm interested in hearing from people who've been in a similar position. Did buying the "fun" car end up being worth it, or do you regret the decision?

Private medical insurance recommendation?

Hope this is not too irrelevant to the sub-reddit (can't post on askUK)? Was wondering how are people getting medical services in London....

I'm currently on a policy that still requires a NHS GP referral for any specialist examination.

I've only had terrible experiences with the NHS (waiting 4+ hours in A&E, NHS A&E doctors couldn't reach urgent bookings for NHS services on my behalf, been prescribed medication before finding out my allergy source, not being able to book appointments ETC) .... The only two times where I got medical help in the UK were through private clinics. The process was very normal - I walked in, I saw a doctor, I got treated immediately. But price was 500+ pounds each time (for treatments under 20 minutes each time, it was acute but rather minor issues).

So I'd like to ask if anyone has gotten any private insurance provider that can allow you to go to private GP, quick referrals, or direct specialist appointments. I'm really looking for a more intuitive solution. In my home country, going to the hospital is just very intuitive - you go to a hospital, and you see a doctor. I was just wondering if there are any private insurance provider that can recreate the normal procedure of seeing a doctor in the UK (excluding A&E of course)....

Birthday dinner

I’m trying to decide on a restaurant for my husband’s birthday and have narrowed it down to four, but I’m going round in circles.
A bit of context:
It’s on a Monday evening, so a few places I’d originally wanted are closed.
Flexible on budget as long as it genuinely feels worth it.

My husband loves:
Steak
BBQ/open-fire cooking
Good beers
Comfort food (mac & cheese always a win…)

I’d love some good seafood options
I prefer somewhere that feels like a proper occasion rather than just “the best steak”.

I’ve currently got bookings at:
The Park
Temper Soho
But also considering:
Firebird
Hawksmoor but I know it’s just very steak forward

Any advice would be appreciated! Thank you 🙏🏻
