Best areas to live in Yorkshire (Dales, Moors, Howardian Hills, or further south of Yorkshire) with career opportunities? £1.1m budget

Hi everyone,

What would be the best areas to live in Yorkshire (Dales, Moors, Howardian Hills, or further south of Yorkshire) with career opportunities?

My brother who is also a HENRY is looking to shift up to Yorkshire to be closer to family and they are looking for areas there with good career opportunities.

I know Leeds and Manchester can be nearby-ish for the career aspect but it seems as though there are other big industries there too.

He works in Data Analytics currently and earning upwards of £140k in London with a total benefits of £165k.

He's open to all industries and has worked in banking, insurance, healthcare (public and pharma companies), retail etc with household or recognisable brands. Majority of it has been in financial services but he has got 10 years of consulting experience as well.

Lifestyle wise they are looking for a detached house, 4+ bedrooms, a couple of acres of land minimum, family friendly, green and areas unlikely to be built on (e.g. housing developments), close-by to pubs and schools.

With that in mind what in mind, what would you suggest are the best areas to live in Yorkshire?

How do Vanguard GIA fees work? And is it best to drip feed or do lump sum investments in GIA to keep costs low?

Hi everyone,

Sorry for the stupid question.

How do Vanguard GIA fees work? And is it best to drip feed or do lump sum investments in GIA to keep costs low?

Let's say if someone had £70k in GIA and wanted to either: A) Drip feed by hundreds of pounds every other week into the GIA or B) Do a lump sum investment every other month e.g. 3k every other month.

Which would be most cost effective?

In essence I want to add every little or large amount whenever I have some spare money into my GIA but I don't know which is the most cost-effective way to do it.

Thanks for any clarification.

What are the most effective ways to leave a toxic manager but not the company?

What are the most effective ways to leave a toxic manager but not the company?

I often hear it is better to leave the company (30k+ people org), but sometimes that is not the case and you are dealt with a bad manager.

What would you do in scenarios where you are simply under a toxic manager that is part of the furniture in the company, difficult to remove, and uses people to do what they want but not promote them or stand up for the staff therefore stunting their growth?

Who's the most toxic manager you had and how did you manage to get out of the situation?

Most people here can probably relate to a toxic manager by either having had one or know someone who had a toxic manager.

So who's the most toxic manager you had, what made them toxic, and how did you manage to get out of the situation?

What car cleaning products are legitimately good? Especially in keeping the car exterior and interior looking clean for long.

What car cleaning products are legitimately good? Especially in keeping the car exterior and interior looking clean for long.

I find living in cities means cars acquire dust on the exterior quite easily, but I have noticed some car cleaning products keep the dust and rainwater marks off longer than others when I get my car cleaned at the dealership after servicing.

Therefore, which car products do you swear by?

What are your views on Lloyds Banking Group as an employer?

What are your views on Lloyds Banking Group as an employer?

My brother is currently interviewing with them and we've noticed their Glassdoor scores have tanked from 4.1 three years ago to about 3.6 now (and was lower) since the new CEO Charlie Nunn came in.

They used the staff's bank accounts data for pay reviews https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4gpy20rgq9o

Their HR doesn't have the best reputation in the market with Sharon Doherty extremely unpopular as the CPO from what I read.

The bank seems to be trying very hard to change its image and seems to be "all about AI" on public social media sites but the systems are reputed to be dog shite from analysts point of view. Very obsessed with fame and glory it seems buying phony awards by paying for tables.

Obviously outside of the UK they are almost unheard of so very much a local player.

On the plus side it seems to be a relatively conservative, stable UK bank.

What are your views on Lloyds Banking Group as an employer? Would you consider them for HENRY level pay or a good option in the banking or financial services sector?

Any good news or bad news stories to share or if you work there what do you think? Or are there any other equivalent better employers?

Solid investment diversifications beyond SIPPs, Pensions, ISAs, and GIAs?

Hi all,

What are your investment options beyond SIPPs, Pensions, ISAs, and GIAs?

Let's say you max the ISA and SIPPs/Pensions out every year and have a good pot, you put in a decent amount into GIAs too every year (e.g. £10k).

Most of these are in some global equity funds such as Vanguard Global All Cap Index.

What would be solid investment options that are beyond ISAs, SIPPs/Pensions, and GIAs?

IVF experiences and recommendations in or around London? Two miscarriages in the past 10 months.

Hi,

Does anyone have IVF experiences and recommendations in or around London?

My brother in law and wife are trying.

The couple are both 41 and trying for a couple of years, both in good health, the tests suggest low on morphology which he is supplementing on for nearly a year.

They had a miscarriage at 8 weeks in autumn 2025 and a chemical miscarriage March 2026 about 3 weeks in.

They are both trying and as you can imagine devastated by the miscarriages. As you can imagine as a sibling I am supporting both of them from a morale and support point of view but I don't know a lot about IVF.

They are exploring IVF route via NHS but would welcome private recommendations and what to watch out for.

Thank you very much deeply for any advice.

How do you see the future of the UK rolling out over the next 5, 10, 15 years perhaps?

With everything in flux, how do you see the future of the UK rolling out over the next 2, 5, 10, 15 years?

This relates to the personal finance FIRE aspect due to the fact that we live in this country and have tied up our living and future including perhaps good portion of the wealth and income here.

Are you optimistic, pessimistic, neutral about the UK?

What are the big opportunities, threats, areas where UK will get weaker? What are your plans to mitigate some of the risks living in the UK faces over the coming years?

Do you see the UK getting better or worse culturally, health, economics and society wise?
