literary to read over the summer?

So I’m year 11 and I’m planning on doing English lit next year, mostly due to my parents and I’m actually so scared, like I’m not ready, so please recommend me some good reads so that I can atleast feel more sophisticated, and prepare myself to be reading a lottt more. I like reading but compared to everyone else doing the a level, I feel like an outsider since I’ve had basically no experience with reading many classics and older books

Do I pick media studies or psychology?

Struggling which one to pick for a level, as I literally don’t know what I’m gonna do in the future. I know psychology is more respected and probably opens more paths, but genuinely don’t know if I will be able to do well in it, like yes I’m gonna take it seriously and lock inn but also I’m currently at the boundaries in maths and science to be able to take it in my school which we just need a 6 in maths OR science (was on track for a 6 in maths but not anymore, I’ll probably get 6-5 or 6-6 in combined science). So I’m worried it’s not worth the risk and I’d maybe end up with a D. I think I’d find it interesting but I might end up butchering it?

I take media now which isn’t a requirement for a level, should get a 7, and I find it interesting (just didn’t put enough work in💔). I think I’d enjoy it more and there’s less risk in coming out with a bad grade.

OR do I just take both of them and drop English lit which I enjoy, but I feel like I’m mostly taking it bc of my parents, idk I’m just lostt

My best friend is becoming insufferable and I don’t know what to do

I’ll try make rant this short but I’ve been friends with this girl for years and we’re in the same friend group (aged 14-16) but the last year or so she’s been off. Her family is pretty well off and she always brags about her father’s expensive car and she has degraded me and my friend for not being rich. She is constantly in a bad mood, but this just means she ignores me. She also gives off ‘pick me’ behaviour, always seeking validation, bragging that everyone loves her whenever she gets validation, and persistently messaging this guy who she knew wasn’t interested (he literally blocked her so she texted him on a different platform) and when he was with another one of our friends.

I feel like I can’t even have a conversation with her now without being patronised or being bombarded with the most stupid questions which is actually exhausting. I can’t just drop her because that probably means losing like 6 close friends but I also don’t know how much longer I can go on like this, I can only distance myself so much. Please give me some advice🙏
