Seeking Connecticut bear stories

Hi there -- I'm Chris Polansky, a reporter at Connecticut Public Radio, your NPR member station in Hartford.

We're reporting on bears in Connecticut, and are looking to hear from CT residents with interesting/compelling/dramatic encounters with bears.

Did a bear get into your house? Harm or kill your livestock or bees? Damage your farm? Scare your kids in the yard? Get itself locked in your car? We'd love to hear from you!

Shoot me an email: cpolansky@ctpublic.org

Thanks!

EDIT: Thanks to the folks who've reached out via email so far and the commenters below! Want to be clear that we're aware of black bears' natural tendencies to avoid conflict and be "good neighbors" as one of you put it. That said, the state reports thousands of human-bear conflicts each year, a number that's on an upward trajectory over recent years, and bears have entered homes in CT dozens of times so far in 2026. That's why we're looking to hear from folks with stories of conflict.
