Hey guys, I've just draped over my boot last, trying to think how I can make the pattern lay flat. I can make some shallow cuts all around the edge, but im not sure if that will help with the instep/tongue curve. My boot will have a seam along the back and a zipper on the interior side. I understand that adding a seam near the instep/tongue to take on some of that curvature would make it easier, but im not going for that look. Any suggestions? If there's few options, then ig I will add a seam somewhere.

Hey guys, I've been wanting to get into making my own boots. I am planning on making a boot with a good year welt with the sort of style as per the photos attached below. I've been quite unsure on the thickness I should use for the upper. On one side, most online recommend 2mm, but having owned a piece of 2mm chrome tanned leather, it seems to be stiff to achieve those creases, perhaps 1.6mm? Any help towards the right direction is appreciated. Additionally, if anybody has tips around leather dying/oiling/distressing that would be awesome :)

Ps: brown pair leather looks a bit thicker or stiffer than the rest, still looks awesome.
