Am I the only one who thinks the IMDb rating for Alpha is ridiculously harsh?
I went in expecting a complete disaster after seeing the 2.6/10 rating, but honestly... it wasn't bad at all. In fact, I found it far more entertaining than Bhoot Bangla and quite a few other Bollywood releases we've had recently.
The acting was solid across the board. Sure, the movie wasn't perfect. Kabir's (Hrithik's) cameo came out of absolutely nowhere, and I'm still confused about why Dr. Varghese shot himself. Those were definitely odd writing choices.
But apart from that? The action sequences were genuinely fun. The concept felt fresh instead of the same old ghisa-pita Bollywood formula we've been getting for years.
Honestly, while watching Alpha, all I could think of was The Boys' Compound V mixed with The Powerpuff Girls' Chemical X- except this time it was used to create badass women who could actually fight like warriors. 😂 It was over-the-top, but at least it was trying something different.
And that's exactly why I think movies like this deserve some appreciation. If Bollywood gets punished every time it experiments with a new concept, we'll keep ending up with the same recycled stories over and over again. I'd much rather see filmmakers take risks, especially when they're trying to make female-led action films.
Is Alpha a masterpiece? No.
Is it a 2.6/10 movie? Absolutely not.
For me, it's a comfortable 6/10- flawed but entertaining and worth a watch.
What do y'all think? Did I miss something that justifies such a low rating, or is the backlash a bit over the top?
